Cat insurance, pre-existing condition

Hi there,

My cat has recently been diagnosed with a heart murmur.

Although we have insurance, there seems to be an issue with the data I provided when signing up (I marked my cat as mixed - which he is - but according to the vet documents he is a pure breed cat), and now I'm concern he won't be insured.

Can anyone recommend any pet insurance that would cover pre-existing conditions?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean 'according the vet documents'? How would the vet know better than you what breed the cat is? If the vet has made a wrong assumption/mistake on the documentation, surely you simply ask them to correct it.

It should be easier to clarify the mistake than to find a new policy. As it is a chronic condition it's unlikely another company would cover it. There are some that do cover a pre-existing but only after a period of time without it, for example skin condition would need to be clear for a year or so. It won't apply here as the heart murmur is lifelong.

Yes, I agree. Just trying to get ahead of this and figure out our options. Thanks.

Talk to your vet, we had one temporary receptionist who didn't realise there was a difference between a British short hair ( pedigree) and a domestic shot hair ( moggy). We are gradually correcting these, but sometimes need to client to bring it to our attention.

We had this with one of our rabbits. She was registered as one breed, then the vet confirmed she was a mixed breed. I had to contact Pet Plan and tell them. They requested confirmation from the vet and then the underwriters agreed to change it on the policy.

I don't think any company covers pre-existing conditions.
Certainly not a chronic condition that needs ongoing treatment

You'll just need to speak to the vet about why he's registered as X when he's actually Y.

If it's a genuine mistake (it happens - ours got our cats' name wrong for years!) it should be easily corrected and no issue for insurance.

You're very unlikely to find an insurance company that covers any kind of pre-existing heart condition.
