Cat and baby - vets visit

So this is going to sound ridiculous, I know.

I have to take our cat to the vets, it’s a 27 minute walk. My baby absolutely hates being in a baby carrier but loves the pushchair.

Do I put the cat in his carrier in the basket bit of the pushchair underneath or is this cruel? I don’t want it to be a bumpy ride for him and scare him obviously. I want him to be as happy as possible going into the vets.

I mean I could push the pushchair with one hand and carry the cat in his carrier in the other hand, but I have to walk next to and cross over very busy roads. I’ve never actually pushed our baby with just one hand, is it difficult or does it come naturally? I know I sound stupid, I am sorry.

any suggestions would be great, thank you.

my other option (probably easiest) is get a taxi, but will the taxi driver allow me to take a cat in the car? And I’d take the pushchair so I could walk back, would they allow me to put a pushchair in the boot? I rarely get taxis I usually just walk if I can, so I’m not really sure how it works.

If it would make things easier, get a taxi. Yes, they will let you take the cat in a carrier, and they will put the pushchair in the boot.

Many years ago, my husband and I took a toddler, a cat in a holdall (with its head poking out - we couldn't afford a carrier at the time - and a baby in a pushchair, to a vet, on the bus, 30 minutes. Snow on the ground. We managed.

Your cat will be unhappy whatever you do.

Personally I'd go with whatever is quickest and easiest so taxi would be best.

Thank you both. It’s reassuring to know the taxi will allow me to take the cat and the pushchair. I’ll definitely do that!

saying that, the bus isn’t a bad idea either. Thank you ever so much

If you have a pushchair with one long bar handle it's easy.
If its more of an umbrella fold style with 2 separate handles it's much harder.

I'd walk there and get a taxi home. I'm not sure I'd walk with the cat in a carrier for a whole hour. Surely he'd get quite upset.

My cat always used to love the attention he got on a bus.

Williams27x · 22/11/2023 16:44

Thank you! It’s just the long bar, I’ll give it a go when I go out to the shops later tonight. I’ve seen people do it but I’ve just never trusted myself as I’m quite clumsy haha

we’re dropping him off to be neutered so he won’t be heading back home with us, and luckily my husband will be home from work when we have to pick him up

You can get backpack at carriers - if you will be walking to vet whenever you go it might be worth investing in one..

Jasmin1971 · 22/11/2023 16:55

I've taken my cat in a taxi. I think it would be easier for you. You could even ask the vet if someone could come and carry you cat for you into the surgery.

I'd have an Uber there and back. It's a one off it's not like it's all the time. It will be better for your cat who probably won't like the carrier anyway so going in a taxi will mean it is quicker for your cat.

Williams27x · 22/11/2023 17:24

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll definitely get an Uber, so the day isn’t too stressful for our cat. I’ll definitely look into the cat backpacks too, for future travels. I really appreciate everyone’s help, thank you
