Cat urinating problems - how urgent?

Hi,

I need some advice about my cat. She is around 2 years old and for context we just moved house 2 days ago.

She has been going to the litter tray very often and urinating in small amounts but doing lots. Last night while I was emptying and refilling the litter tray, she started to pee right next to me and I noticed it was very very slightly tinted pale pinkish. Obviously I started panicking and googling but my housemate told me to calm down.

Other than that she feels fine (as in she will let me touch her everywhere and nothing feels swollen/hard), is acting the same as usual, she’s playing, drinking and eating as usual. Also important to note for the past week she’s only had dry food as the wet food she likes has been out of stock (started her up on it again this morning)!

I’ve tried to ring the vets but they didn’t pick up and I’m also in the middle of transferring her over to the new one near to us.

My main query is, how urgent is this? Could it be stress-related from the move? If so, do I watch and wait or do I get her seen ASAP? I only ask because I’ve taken her to the vet in a panic a few times before for what turned out to be absolutely nothing and I don’t want to stress her out even more by taking her there (she hates it).

I’ve also stopped dry food and only giving her wet food and water to increase fluids.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi OP, sorry to hear she's feeling unwell. If it were me, I'd get her seen asap, especially with the off color urine. You don't want a small infection to turn into anything more serious because it was untreated. I'd try the vets again for advice but if no luck I'd be taking her in asap. Hope she feels better soon Flowers

Peeing blood is a bad sign in anyone, she probably has a UTI that can be easily treated if caught soon enough. It is very urgent

If it's the first time I'd get it seen to (or ring for advice) just to be safe as it can be dangerous and lead to bigger issues .

DCat is susceptible to red / pink wee so I give him cystalese from VioVet and a couple of pouches of urinary food a week and crank it up if he seems to be having issues which clearsit up and give him runny scrambled egg made with water and water from a can of tuna in spring water as he doesn't drink much, at least not fresh anyway - seems to love drinking from the pond.. Obviously if he is lethargic off his food etc then he gets a vets trip but that only happened the first time, normally he is fine within himself and vet said it wasn't an infection or crystals.

Cats can get stress induced cystitis. My cat had it and I got the home visiting vet to come over. They gave her meds.

Getting a home visit may be less stressful for your cat if that's an option where you are. My regular vet doesn't offer it but were able to give me the number for a home visiting service.

It's really not something you can have a wait and see approach to. She needs to be seen.

thanks for the advice everyone, we’ve just come back from the vets.

They said it’s likely stress-induced from the move, gave us some anti-inflammatory meds and basically said to try and get her having only wet food (and if not give her some dry as she needs to have food in order to have the medication)! She also refuses any wet food that’s not the one she likes!

She’s still going for a pee every 5-10 minutes unfortunately, really hoping it settles soon.

I'm sure it will. My cat responded really quickly to the treatment.
