Wary of parents new dog

I’ve lived away from my parents for several years now & we always had cats growing up. I have a deep dislike of dogs due to a farm Lab attacking me as a child. They’ve recently gotten a husky, who is gorgeous but I still don’t enjoy dogs. I feel on edge every time I’ve visited & although it’s a year old, it jumps up and barks a lot. I know it’s still a puppy. My mother in particular gets upset that I don’t like the dog. I’ve not explicitly said this but she says it’s noticeable. We’ve been advised for New Years when we visit to not wear anything we like, as he does tend to pluck holes in clothing.

Would it be terrible if I said I don’t want to do NYE at their house? The anxiety is awful, and although I know I could push through, I don’t know if I want to spend the Christmas period in worry.

they need to do enforcement training to stop him jumping up!! he should be going to obedience classes.

Of course not, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.
I am a bit WTAF that your parents have a dog who jumps up, bites and rips holes in clothing. 1 year old dog is not a puppy! and it is not acceptable for the dog to be exhibiting that behaviour in my opinion.

I just wouldn't go, I rarely visit homes where there is a dog ... my DH won't visit homes where there is a cat Grin. If we absolutely have to meet up with family who have pets we arrange to stay in a hotel & meet in a neutral place.

Another vote for simply not going. Agree that your DOs should have trained their DDog not to jump but that's clearly not happening. I wouldn't trust a DDog that was receding so little training and guidance on a possibly rowdy night in its own home.

Sounds fine. Invite them out to a place that doesn't take dogs after NY.
