6 of ds2's have ahtched, some still trailing eggs some not.

leafl;et says ivy, privet or bramble but they seem unimpressed with any? And what about water? leaflet says they'll drown if I allow them any, but don't they need ANY? Not even a few dropson a leaf like rainfall?

this says spray leaves daily with water...

tissy · 05/03/2008 13:03

so does this

www.rspca.org.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RSPCA/RSPCARedirect&pg=FishAmphibiansandOthersPet Care&marker=1&articleId=1154077758994 and this]] so unless you have insects whichreally don't like water, sounds like it might not be a bad idea....

where did you get them from?

are they a weird species?

tissy · 05/03/2008 13:06

they give me the heebie-jeebies. I thought they ate privet though. Maybe they are too small to eat yet?

Peachy · 05/03/2008 14:59

har bloody har MMJ

small sticks with eggs attached anyway

will try the water- thanks. Did seem mighty weird- maybe the fact the company sells eggs means they encourage a fast turnover.......

privet and ivy are the best things for them. I used to use a mist sprayer from the garden certre, like the ones that you can use to make ironing damp.

If you want something that looks even stranger, try leaf and spiny leaf insects. They are really really cool!!!!

Must admit I left the lid off once and hundreds of baby stick insects were scattered though the house and we were fnding chunks missing from houseplants for months afterwards.

Hmm...stick insects...I used to have some as a child and fed them on privet.

They don't need a male to reproduce. Each lay about 200 eggs (well ours did). A lot of the eggs hatch. That's a lot of stick insects very quickly.

I remember collecting eggs in an old empty match box and forgetting about them until one day we had a map spread out on the floor and a very small stick insect walked along the A5. Soon had them everywhere too.

CodofCodHall · 08/03/2008 14:18

sometimes they grow quite big and end up looking like this

Peachy · 08/03/2008 14:19

No, Cod

that is a Soupy bat. Soupy Bats are not ideally kept in a net and fed privet, neither do they hatch from eggs either!

honestly! Gos tudy Zoology!
