Moving a tropical fish tank...

Our fish and their 75 litre tank are moving home on Friday. It is only 2 doors down, but we will still have to empty the tank and then re-assemble it when we get it there. We will use the same water and will keep the fish in some of that water in a huge plastic container while the glass tank is sorted. Anyine done this and any tips? My friend's kids are going to be the new owners of the fish so I am hoping to minimise casualties! They are mainly guppies and tetras btw. Thanks!

I moved a 220l tank when we moved here. I actually used a bin! I slowly transfered the fish and water to a big bin liner in the bin , then tied it up with air in it so that the wter wouldn't slop everywhere.

I also had two buckets, also with bags in - if you nip in the pet shop they should be able to give you some. I seperated the fish out a bit, so that they weren't overcrowded, and the bigger ones couldn't start attacking the smaller. I also had the most valuable ones in the buckets, which I took in the front of the van.

When refilling, we left tank with the old water until they had settled a bit before filling it right up again. Also used stress coat. I don't think any of ours did die.

Good advice here so far, and also:
Keep as much of the old water and filter from before the move so that you can minimise the change in water quality when you set it up in the new house. Have done this a couple of times, and generally found the most stressful part of the process for the fish was catching them in the first place!
