Possible heart problem in cat

Hi,

Just looking for advice as don't know what to do for the best. Had my cat at the vet today as he had a funny turn, yowling, drooling and not himself, this happened twice in a couple of hours.

Vet thinks he has cardiomyopathy but advised that a cardiology appointment would be the first step to properly diagnose and to know for sure. I have phoned my insurance and don't think they will pay out as he has had a minor heart murmur from a kitten and I stupidly didn't even think that would be classed as a pre existing medical condition until now!

I can't afford £600 for a scan and then however much monthly on medication without any help from insurance. The vet has given him 10 days worth of tablets and to take him back for another appointment after the 10 days. He won't take tablets, just spits them out and I can't hide in his food as he won't eat it. He's an outdoor cat and advised to keep him indoors incase he gets a clot and can't use his back legs.

Can anyone advise what they would do in this situation? He is only 6 but I can't pay for scans etc and I just don't know whether waiting 10 days until he next sees vet is worth it for him if it's going to result in pts anyway? He's never been kept in for 10 days and I just don't know what is the best thing for him!

Since being home he has stared out the window but made no attempt to get outside so I don't think he is feeling himself.

Any help is much appreciated 🙂

Not sure if it’s the same but my cat collapsed with a heart issue over 3 years ago. Clocked up £800 bill in a day with scans and things. Since then she’s been on meds (vet medin) which she eats like a treat or in lik e lix . I pay around £30 for 50 tablets so not a great on going expense. The point of my post is to give him a chance if you can. Mine had a poor prognosis but here she is over 3 years on.

Sorry about your kitty not feeling well.
Try calling Cardiff Cat Clinic to discuss - even if it is far away from you, price difference may make it worth the travel.
All the best to you and your fur baby
