Advice on kitten food please :)

I have 5 month old kittens (2) and have been feeding them whiskers kitten pouches and biscuits since we have had them.

I over-heard the pet shop man telling another customer that the kitten pouches are rubbish and suggested some royal canin complete cat food. So started giving it to them on Monday with plenty of water.
This morning at 6 am one of the kittens had diorrhoea (sp!) and mucus with blood in it. He was really yelping too (woke us up), he couldn't walk for a few minutes (all shaky).

He is fine now, bouncing around everywhere. I have been out and bought wet food and he has gulped it down. I was thinking maybe he was allergic to the dry complete food???

If it happens again should i take him to the vets, or leave it a bit longer. So far no other poos have been done!

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

stick to the food that they are used to - I use pouches and my cat is 8 and very healthy.

Dry food really swells up in their tummies as well and can make them feel quite uncomfortable and they need to drink loads.

no they have never had milk, just water.

Never had a problem with RC dry kitten food. (If you can't get it locally petplanet sells it. You can put water on it.)

There are also other good dried food manufacturers - Nutro for one. Just look at the pricey ones on Petplanet website - they are usually the ones that vets recommend

The better food manufacturers do pouches too which may be more nutricious, but they do need dried food too for their teeth.

Nutritious even

still awaiting the next poo!

i will stick with the wet food and IAMS biscuits. They seem to be thriving on it.

Thanks for your comments
