1) Pets teach responsibility
Tasks like walking the dog, having to feed the cat in the morning, or cleaning the hamster cage teach children responsibility and also give them a sense of accomplishment. Caring for pets also helps children develop empathy for others.
Caring is not a quality that suddenly appears in adulthood. It needs to be developed from childhood, and a pet can help with this. In today’s world, children don’t have many opportunities to take care of other living beings besides pets. It is better to try not to leave younger brothers and sisters with the older ones, since this is both too serious a responsibility and shifting the responsibilities of parents to the child.
We understand that this is sometimes the easiest and most affordable way to leave a baby under supervision, but believe me – the elder and in adulthood will remember about free work as a nanny. No joy.
Pet care is especially important for boys because the process is not seen as a stereotypically “girly” thing.
2) Pets help in learning
Pets can help children learn. Educators have long used animals (usually dogs) as a form of therapy in schools to help children with developmental disabilities learn more effectively. However, this is useful not only for children with special needs, but also for everyone else. For their mental development, the presence of a non-judgmental friend with paws will be useful.
