Parents dogs visiting

Hello all!

I've got a 5 month old and my parents are visiting with their two dogs soon.
My issue is that the dogs havnt met a baby before and my baby has seen dogs but has no interest, so never touched one or spent any time with one.
Any tips for a harmonious weekend?
Info:

  • Open plan living situation
  • I don't want the dogs in the bedrooms (due to carpets and bouncing on the beds)
  • Dogs are trained but ...bouncy and high energy
  • I'm insisting they're crated at night which my parents aren't thrilled about but will do.
  • we have a small non dog proofed garden, the dogs will be driven to a park for a walk each day
  • we live in London and my parents live in the middle of the country side (house in the middle of a field)
  • We don't have playpen, baby gates etc
  • we've juuust bought a high chair so she's only in it for short periods till her sitting up is stronger
  • I like dogs, both my partner and I grew up with dogs, but we don't have one

I think the key will be constant supervision around baby. Everything else you’ve mentioned sounds good but supervision is the one thing that will ensure things go smoothly. Good luck !

They'll be your parents' responsibility. But yes to supervision around your baby. However you might find they either love the baby (one of my previous dogs was fascinated with babies and would stare for hours) or totally ignore her.

Not sure what type of dogs but watch toys. My spaniel used to steal some of DD's toys. In particular a stuffed horse. He denuded it of its mane then appropriated it for himself....

Mmmm. Id introduce on a walk in park, baby in buggy and dogs on leads so walking beside and ideally stopping short enough for them to see/ hear withput getting too interested? Intro at home might be very exciting?

Could they get a suction type baby gate so you aren't screwing things into the wall but will act as a barrier when needed?
