Hamsters and the Habitrail cages?

We bougt a Habitrail Ovo suite for the DC's hamster on saturday and still can't put it together. Has anyone else got one?
They looked so great and flashy in the pet shop but I'm now regretting spending so much money on such a badly designed thing.

they are a PITA to clean out too!

Can you get a refund? Seriously - they look cool but the oxygen circulation is poor and the cleaning out is a nightmare!

I would recommend a plain barred cage and add in tubes/toys TBH

something like this where the shelves can go anywhere and interlink with ladders etc You can get something similar in Wilkinsons that is good - got 2 teirs for about £20 like this

ignore the first link - second one is better... or you could get a lower one because hamsters have no height-recognition so will climb to top and just let go!

My sister's hamster nearly came a cropper a few times from doing this trick!

I second the 'take it back while you can' angle too - we had a similar contraption (can't remember the name) and it was a nightmare. Meant that cleaning out dd's hamster became essentially my job which was NOT the idea I can tell you.
However, I am not a fan of barred cages either as ours chews them like mad, making a huge din at the wrong times, and by the time she had done her 'spider-rat' impression climbing the walls and dangling from the ceiling a few times her claws were red and very sore.
So ours now resides in a large fish tank that we had spare at the time, with plenty of more natural stuff to chew and climb on. Obviously we are careful to site it out of direct sunlight and have a mesh lid for ventilation, but so far it has been a great success, and is a breeze to clean!

We have one - it looks great and our hamster loves it but it is a huge PITA to clean and I have to get DP to reassemble as I can't do it myself.
