Pros & cons of castrating a 5 month old kitten

My kitten has been booked with vets for pets to be castrated. He is not even 6 months old yet. They have been emailing us for a la couple of months now. I am not completely against it, I just feel he is too young as he hasn’t fully developed yet? I am based in the UK and a few people from my country in Eastern Europe feel it is a bit young as well. Any thoughts please? Are there any risks involved to do it so early? He will be done anyway, I would not let him roam around the neighbourhood as he is a house cat.

My boy was done at 19 weeks,he was absolutely fine. I got him from a rescue organisation and they'd already booked him in for the day after I got him, so he had a slightly traumatic 24 hours, but he settled in nicely.

You want to get him done before he starts spraying (or making other cats pregnant if he goes out).

Cats reach sexual maturity at four months and so he will be able to get a female pregnant from this age.

I don’t think there’s any cons like there are with dogs. A rescue near me neuters as soon as they at weight which can often be 16 weeks.

Definitely sooner rather than later because the spraying is vile.

They go by weight more than age my two were of weight before 6 months there brother came to me around 6 months and was barely of weight then he just squeaked through tbh he is still the lightest of the three even now four years later

There are no cons, but many pros. And once he's done he will be able to go outdoors which he will love.

Yes the spraying is horrid. I think the sooner the better because they do seem to notice and be if you leave it too long. And once he starts spraying you will definitely do it.

There are no cons, only pros. I did TNR (trap, neuter, return of stray/feral cats) in the ME - Saudi - for 7 years. We neutered cats as early as 2lbs/2mos/testes visible with no issues at all.
