Dog scared of harness

My young terrier gets very distressed about wearing her harness, she runs cries and urinates. I've spoken to the vet and and they say just get her used to it with positive reinforcement, and or walk her on the collar. I'm very uncomfortable with walking her from the collar, and have had little luck with the positive reinforcement. I have tried different harness types to try and find her the most comfortable fit, but I'm at a loss of how else to help her. Has anyone else experienced this?

Harnesses are a complete nonsense unless you are racing huskies. Collars give little control. Try a slip lead - they are loose when necessary and give control when that is necessary.

You could try a figure of 8 lead. I prefer the cushion web ones like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152779281685?hash=item23925ad515:g:2SAAAOxy9eVRSUzg&var=453343115253
They don't sit around the neck, they aren't tight around the nose / mouth area and they are very soft. At these prices it's worth a try even if it doesn't work out, but everyone I have suggested them to has loved them for their own dogs.

This happened with our dog, she was fine wearing a harness initially but more and more distressed having it out on. She used to run and hide if we got it out. We were reluctant to use a collar die to an injury she suffered before we got her. We took her to a physio about her back legs (she was limping) and she told us that the harness was causing her pain in her shoulders and she was really stiff and tense around that area. The physio worked wonders in just a few weeks and really helped, she advised us using a collar instead of the harness and it's been fine.
I would definitely rule out pain first if she's having such a strong reaction.
