Have you tried pulling the carpet back and looking at the state of the underlay? We tried all the above, but it was only when I realised the underlay was soaking wet and couldn't dry because of the carpet on top that we solved the problem. I cut away the wet smelly underlay and replaced it with a new patch, put a few puppy mats between it and the carpet, cleaned the carpet again and let it dry. Took the puppy mats out and put the carpet back. It sorted the smell.

Do you still have the cat? We have an older rescue who sadly spent 8 years living in an outdoor pen and she goes through phases of peeing on the sofa. We have the sofas covered with Kylie sheets and throws now (god knows what the neighbours must think when they’re on the line daily) but we won’t replace the sofa until she passes, as there’d be no point.

We have used the stuff that comes in a bright blue bottle from Amazon which is pretty good at neutralising fresh pee scents, but it doesn’t stop her going there again.

I've had a similar problem with dog wee. I used simple solution urine destroyer and completely soaked the carpet in it so it went through to underlay too. Waited for it to dry and then hoovered. I then used simple solution pet carpet refresher once the carpet was dry just as a back up and it's got rid of the smell.

Your problem is probably the underlay rather than the carpet. PPs suggestion of lifting the carpet to make sure it's dry and replacing that bit of underlay is good and cheaper than new carpet

This is my fear and why I am resisting DH's wish of a kitten. We have carpets and I already spend so much time cleaning after our lab who is true to his name of Mad Dog.

In a house I once lived in we had to replace the carpet, underlay and several floor boards to actually get rid of the smell :(
