Mouse in house- HELP!

Desperate738 · 18/09/2022 23:28

Cat has just brought in an alive mouse. Tried to chase it outside again (big mistake!) Now it's gone and hid under the fridge, there is a gap between the fridge and built in cabinets where it could have now escaped under the cabinets and possibly inside them where the food is. HOW DO I GET THIS MOUSE OUT OF MY HOUSE?? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Could you shut the cat in your kitchen and leave it to catch the mouse? I have used mouse traps to catch mice in my house, I always have a couple in my garage just in case!

I'll give it a try, fingers crossed the cat can catch it by morning 😫
Really appreciate the speedy reply! :)

If the cat was going to kill the mouse it probably would have done it already. I think the tossers like bringing in live mice so they can watch us panic 😁. I used to point mine in the direction of the mouse and they’d look at me as if to say, Yeah, and? Then walk off.
So, do you want to kill the mouse or catch it and release it? If the cat caught it outside it’s probably a field/wood mouse and will be quite happy to get back from whence it came. Mice aren’t like rats - who actively avoid new things and traps for ages - they’re quite inquisitive and therefore fairly easily caught in traps. I have found humane traps baited with peanut butter or chocolate work almost immediately. We then walk them about a mile or so away and release them. Job done. If you’re not inclined to do that, a snap trap is probably the quickest and lost humane answer. Though I’d not want risk that with a cat in the house unless you can lock the cat away elsewhere. Either way Amazon next day delivery is your friend.

I have used this two-bowl balance trap successfully a few times. I would set it up on a board or box of some kind so you can lift the whole thing outside once the mouse is trapped. If you leave it there overnight you might have caught it come morning.

Gone downstairs this morning and cats haven't caught the mouse overnight 😭
Thanks Ponygirlcurtis, I'll try that trap.
Fingers crossed!

If you happen to see the mouse running about before you get the trap, try chucking a tea towel over it, then scoop it up, we caught one this way our cat brought in.

I’ve had a live mouse in twice…. ( once in the bedroom at 04.00) with the cat “playing” with it but not actually finishing it off. I’ve used a Wellington boot and placed it as close as I can and the mouse has run in and hidden. I’ve then been able to carry it outside and leave it to run away in its own time. This obviously does not help you now but for next time… for I fear there will be a next time.

I swear by the tea towel method too. I have no problem using my hands with mice but it's much easier this way.

We have an empty Pringles tube for catching live mice our cat brings in - scoop mouse into it (sometimes they'll run in willingly to get away from cat) then tip upright until you want to release outside.
