My (very) old cat has started sleeping in DD's room in a Tescos Shopping bag (canvas) - should I be worried?

I am of course

But should I be

I know cats generally go away to die - but could this be a sign, to want to be in an enclosed space?

Not necessarily.

Our cat (12 yo ) loves enclosed spaces and always has done, particularly in the colder months.

Her current favourite spot is in the hallway cupboard/sideboard on a shelf with a couple of bags.

How old is your cat and hows her health generally?

Disenchanted · 20/01/2008 16:58

Maybe he is just feeling the cold lately and is trying to keep a bit warmer?

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 17:00

He's 12 but he is pedigree & I would never have bought him if I knew then what I know now about pedigrees

He's always been a bit poorly & has major problems with his sinuses

But he has never gone 'into' things before - he's more of a 'on top of' iyswim - it's quite a change of behaviour

My cat is 4 and will get into any box or bag left lying around.........seems to think that we bring them into the house specifically for hin

BettySpaghetti · 20/01/2008 17:03

Ours is 12 but I don't consider her old, especially when I see her running around during her nightly "mad half-hour".

Maybe hes just slowing down a bit and appreciating warmth and comfort as he gets older?

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 17:06

He is a very old looking cat & has aged terribly in the last few months

I guess it could be warmth

How is he the rest of the time?

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 17:41

Very lethargic and sleepy (yes I know he's a cat & that's how they are - but he does seem more so than usual)

Maybe ring the vet for advice?

My cat is 13 and seems to sleep all the time she isn't eating. I know she has an illness though and is on medication for it but I don't feel she is at death's door.

beautifulgirls · 20/01/2008 18:26

It is definately worth a check at the vet - an overactive thyroid can cause all sorts of behaviour changes - and also make them appear to age - tatty look, thinner despite eating etc etc. If that is the case then can usually be controlled well with tablets.
The vet can also do a thorough MOT of everything else while you are there and if nothing more at least put your mind at rest there are not health issues if this is the case.

I think I will - better safe than sorry

Any news?

How is he today?

KatyMac · 21/01/2008 22:37

He spent most of Saturday & Sunday in the bag

But today he is on the sofa/bathroom floor/in his basket

So I guess he is OK

Aren't cats odd?

Totally but lovely as well.

I miss mine being so small that she would sleep in the tissue box but not the fact that it could take hours to find her!
