Advice for getting a kitten

Hello, looking for some advice please.

We’re looking to get a kitten.

My husband and I had two kittens before our children were born so it’s been a long time since we had kittens, so much so that I can’t really remember what it’s like to have a kitten.

I do remember though that one of the kittens wanted to cuddle all the time which was just lovely and the other was always in ‘attack mode’!

I’m on the kitten list with a few rescues and hoping the kitten we get will be more of a cuddly kitten as one my daughters (10 years old) is a bit nervous around animals having not had much experience of pets.

Can anyone help offer advice with kittens and a potentially nervous child?

Thank you.

Do you have other cats? Kittens are great but if you're wanting to pick a certain personality you're better off looking at adults, but understand that makes intros a bit harder

We last got kittens (n=2) 9 months ago. If I had my time again, I'd push a lot harder to choose them on personality alone: always choose the "friendly" ones. Ours are alright, but I think they will always be a bit more nervous & standoffish than I prefer.

2 is good, they entertain each other.

Kittens have a giant shedding experience at about age 7-10 months, moving in to adult fur. You have been warned !

If you want cuddly cats that wants to be your friend get Siamese . Our son has 2 7 month old Siamese and they love everyone and run to the door to meet whoever is coming in so they can have a cuddle .

Thank you. We’re only getting one. We had two at once pre-kids, from the same litter and all they did was fight. It was pretty stressful. We don’t really have the room for two this time.

Would suggest going to a rescue - they may have slightly older but still young cats and know their personalities.

Yes, we’re signed up to a few rescues on their waiting lists but we still can’t go to just look at the kittens/cats

A well-matched adult cat from rescue is likely to be a much safer bet and easier intro to living with a cat for your daughter.
