my delightfull much loved cat goes through stages of bringing her latest kill (altho more often than not its not dead!) into the house, namely my bedroom .
she seems to be favouring birds at the moment and i come home to find feathers and blood everywhere ive just spent 20 minutes trying to ged a blood stain out of the stair carpet.

im soooo fed up with it, i know i cant stop her doing it but man it pisses me off soooo much!

You must accept the gift with the spirit with which it was intended.

I feel your pain smeeinit. Our git of a cat brings everything in. But his favourite hobby is bringing LIVE mice in, playing with them, then letting them go. So we get infested...

At the mo, we've shut him outside. Cat flap privileges have been withdrawn.

I must confess to finding a (at the most) 14 day old dead Bluetit under our bed.

Thanks Charlie!!!

Can you keep them downstairs during the night - we used to let ours upstairs until the brought up TWO adult magpies in the middle of the night.

They are now restricted to the great ourdoors and the kitchen!

well i suppose i should be thankfull that she eats them,or most of them,i always have a beak and claws left for me!!

mice i dont mind, just a quick clear up of teh guts she doesnt eat BUT birds, well, the feathers just fly away when i try to clean them up and the blood......ewwwww!

last saturday i had a dreadfull evening in london my thread here!! and when we arrived home at 1am i found feathers all over my bed....not atall impressed!

In the summer our cat brings in rabbits - and they really scream! His tally was 11 last summer, although we did manage to free a good number of those. He also catches masses of mice, which is good as we do tend to get quite a lot in the attic. He doesn't catch many birds though thankfully.

He does quite often offer "gifts" of mice or rabbits to the dog, who didn't actually have a clue about what to do with them, but was very excited nonetheless.

Can't help you with stopping them though, unless to say I've read that if you keep them inside from dusk to dawn, then they're less likely to catch birds - and we tend to keep ours in overnight, so maybe that's why he doesn't get many..

smeeinit -I might be asking for tips on getting blood out of carpets in the morning.

If anyone reading this thread has experience of birds in the house before the cat has caught them please read my thread here - I need help catching one !

Smeeinit I really feel for you...we have got a serious hunter, you name it, he's got it, live in the house...mice, rabbits(you're right surr the noise is awful)birds, moles,rats,stoats...urggghhh and we haven't got any carpet now. Can only recommend diluted bicarbonate of soda, haven't tried it on blood but is great on loads of stains, including milk on carpet!

you're not pergnant are you smeeinit? Our Tom cat started doing this very suddenly years ago and the vet said it was because he could sense/smell my hormone changes and knew that I was expecting and he was trying to provide food for the new mouth to feed.
Not sure if that was a load of &%$"^&% but it makes a nice story huh?

discoverlife · 11/01/2008 20:22

Our VERY LARGE tom once brought in a full grown hare and dumped it on DH's feet.

This same tom cat was also seen by our farmer neighbor trying to drag a new born lamb away from it mother. Just be thank full its something you can pick up in a tissue.

smeeinit · 11/01/2008 21:58

mckenzie, no way def not pregnant!!

feel thankful that you found it. It is not funny to find a decayed body full of maggots under the shoe rack under the stairs ( at least we discovered what that odd smell was)

GeekBoy · 14/01/2008 12:36

Bells, lots of bells. Our cat has 3 bells and that seems to have reduced the amount she brings in.. ...still brings a fair bit in mind you. She doesn't get to come right into the house though, just outside and in the conservatory (via a little window..)
