southeastastra · 11/01/2008 20:01

oh no! sorry about your cat

Eliza2 · 11/01/2008 20:03

I'm really sorry--this is sad for you. But it wasn't your fault. Try not to beat yourself up.

sparklygothkat · 11/01/2008 20:09

I am ok, have decided not to bring her home to bury her as our ground is too hard, so am having her cermated (sp?) and will make a little garden in the garden for her and statter her ashes there.

That sounds lovely!

Now go and have a glass of wine and bubble bath.

Guard · 11/01/2008 20:14

So so so sad and what can you say but a little garden sounds really lovely especially if kids can chose a lovely plant/tree or something. When our pets have died (not all naturally) we just talk about them joining their other friends in the sky - always makes me cry but makes me feel better too.

Hassled · 11/01/2008 20:16

I'm so sorry - how awful. One of my cats sleeps under cars during the day - it could have happened to so many of us. Please don't blame yourself.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/01/2008 20:31

What a horrid thing to happen. Cats are such dufusses. How are the kids? Is DS1 now accepting that mummy can't see what's underneath the car? He will. It's not your fault.

The little garden is an excellent idea.

laundrylover · 11/01/2008 20:31

Oh SGK how terrible for you.

My mum did this to my cat when I was at uni and it must've been awful for her, especially having to tell me over the phone. I did forgive her though - I know I was older than your kids but I just wanted to assure that I didn't hold a grudge....

The garden idea is lovely.

what happened was I was driving out of my street and felt a bump, thought it was a box or something. Looked in my mirror and saw a black and white cat running away and collapse on a driveway, I reversed my car, put my hazards on and ran over to the cat, saw it was my baby, picked her up, her heart was racing, she had lost bowel control and her mouth was pouring blood.
I phoned DH and got him to get PIL to get kids and went straight to the vets in tears. Got to vets and was rushed straight in, they checked her over but she was dead, but I knew that. They gave me time with her. And I asked what happens next. They told me. And I left the vets covered in blood in tears. Just sat in my car in the carpark. Still can't believe it happened tbh.

So, so sorry. THis happens fairly often I think. I knew someone who went through it. Please try not to feel too badly about it.

hardygirl · 11/01/2008 20:39

I'm so sorry SGK - what a dreadful thing to happen. It doesn't seem like it now - but it will get better. It would have been quick, especially if her bowels let go. At least you know what happened - she didn't just go missing and leave you torturing yourself. It was a tragic accident, but if you loved your cat as much as I love mine - she would have had the best life you could have given her and she would have been happy right up until the end. And at the end, she was with you. She wasn't alone and she knew you loved her.

BeeEm · 11/01/2008 20:40

So sorry and so sad for you. I was there when one of ours got hit a few years ago - he'd followed me up the road. all those what ifs and whys - truly heartbreaking for you.

sparklygothkat · 11/01/2008 20:41

the vet said it happens a lot.

oh sparkly your poor thing
my friend did this a few years back and she was so upset

the little garden sounds lovely, and you could plant a tree or a rose bush or seomthing

GreebosWhiskers · 11/01/2008 21:36

So sorry SGK

Madoldcatlady · 11/01/2008 23:34

SIL did this twice!

The first time she arrived at school distraught because she'd run over a cat just by school and couldn't bear look at it,so a passer by looked and said, sadly,it was dead. An hour or so later her neighbour brought it's little body to her (not realising she'd killed it herself).

The cat had gone all the way to school, about half a mile away and been run over by his own mummy!

It's very sad for you and your family SGK. Take care.

sparklygothkat · 12/01/2008 11:57

I spent most of the evening last night crying. I just keep replay it in my mind

colditz · 12/01/2008 12:00

Oh SGK I'm so sorry I have real empathy here, I still cry for my old Tom. You mustn't feel guilty for crying, she was your friend and you must grieve.

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 12:10

oh sparkly

I dont drive but when my mum comes to our house my cats recognise her car (dont ask how, I dont know..they never do it to anyone else) and they come pelting over to it. Sometimes before we go out I have to shoo them all away. Wont make you feel better but easily done .

I lost my cat too the other week, I'd had him 9 years, cried my eyes up.
