What do you feed your cats?

We've alway fed ours IAMS but we are on a major economy drive at the moment so it seem only fair that they paricipate BUT I don't want to feed them cheap shite so want to know what's reasonabley priced and good quality.

They've been given Go Kat in an emergency and were not impressed, even when we mixed the left over box with a bag of IAMS they still managed to sieve out the bits they didn't like.

Don't want to give wet food either.

Any suggestions - thank you!

I use wet food tbh. Asda have Felix packs of 12 for @2.00 I notice today. (Stocked up- I did!!!)

littleboo · 07/01/2008 14:07

Whiskas dried and the occasional pouch as well. Used to use iams with previous cat, she lived till 18, but forced to ecconomise this time.

ConnorTraceptive · 07/01/2008 14:09

18 ???
Will switch to tecco value immediately

Mine eats IAMS and pouches, plus value tuna

Tescos do an IAMS like food, which is much cheaper than IAMS and our cat eats it quite happily.

MaeWest · 07/01/2008 14:10

I use wet food - Whiskas usually (as we discovered that Felix is owned by Nestle)

pucca · 07/01/2008 14:10

Out cats have a pouch each morning and night, and complete dried food available all the time. I go with whatever is on offer for the pouches, and just use sainsburys own brand complete biscuits.

heronsfly · 07/01/2008 14:11

Whiskas biscuits, occasional tin of whiskas supermeat, all other brands tend to make them sick.

littleboo · 07/01/2008 14:11

Is whiskas that bad , could afford the iams with this one.
our other cat was never ill, infact was the runt of the litter, moved house 8 times and lived to that ripe old age..... not sure about this one though!!!!

Vacua · 07/01/2008 14:12

organipets or sometimes pero organic

think is about £3 or £13, something like that

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2008 14:13

We use IAMS lite for ours. Neither of them will touch wet food for some strange reason. I tend to stock up whenever it is on offer (3 for 2 etc) and store it in the garage.

serenity · 07/01/2008 14:15

Whiskas kitten pouches mixed with (atm) ASDA dried kitten food. Sainsburys kitten made her do the most disgusting farts ever.

Is there a good reason for only doing dried food btw? Generally that is, not just specifically for you, if you don't mind me asking

colditz · 07/01/2008 14:17

Morrison's tinned meat in jelly, and Gocat crunchies.

colditz · 07/01/2008 14:18

she has half a tin a day - she's about 4/5 months old.

LilRedWG · 07/01/2008 14:18

Mainly mice, but the odd starling.

Rolacola · 07/01/2008 17:21

I understand some products are better than others for their health.

inamuckingfuddle · 07/01/2008 17:24

IAMs, with anything else he can catch for a bit of variety, tends to turn his nose up whenever we try the alternatives, will investigate tesco stuff though

BCLass · 10/01/2008 20:44

felix pouches, but loves tuna, cheese and chicken and will tolerate marmite on toast.

Discovered this morning he does not like soya milk - never seen a cat actually pull a yuk face before

BettySpaghetti · 10/01/2008 20:47

Whiskas tins but it has to be the "in jelly" variety not in gravy.

We used to give her Iams but she was turning into a fat knacker as we were giving her at least double the daily recommended amount (well, the portions were so small she'd just look at us as if to say "Wheres the rest?")

BeeEm · 10/01/2008 20:49

Classic. with a few crunchies on the top. or if feling v poor Asdas own - they don't notice the difference in brand but won't eat certain flavours - picky so and sos

worley · 10/01/2008 20:59

felix - in jelly- , on a budget this week so they had tescos own make in jelly, ate half both went out then came back and finished it off.

but one of them did pinch the left over chicken korma, so shes sstaying out tonight

(its ok she can get in the shed where the tumble dryer has been on and heated it up)

Alambil · 10/01/2008 21:13

my kitten (13 weeks) has whiskas kitten pouches. I keep trying to get her to eat the whiskas kitten biscuits but she won't; any tips?!

chocolatespiders · 10/01/2008 21:22

whiskas pouches half price in tesco atm

my cat only really likes tesco own brand in jelly

thought i would treat her to wiskkas biscuits but they made her sick, she also gets value tuna flakes

chocolatespiders · 10/01/2008 21:23

lewisfan..... i would soften them with milk and water till she is sed to them

SomeLikeItHot · 11/01/2008 13:10

my cat has dry biscuits twice a day- (keep switching brands) and half tin of tuna fish 2-3 times a week

theslownorris · 11/01/2008 13:19

My cat is fed Whiskas Senior dried food. She used to have whatever I bought, but she likes the Whiskas and I suppose she deserves a bit of pampering in her old age .
I've tried giving Iams, she likes it,but always acts like she's being starved. I don't think she gets the concept that she's only meant to have a small amount .
