Should I let this cat out?

Got a cat (9/10 mo) through a friend. Owner needed it rehomed as she was moving.

He's booked in to be neutered on friday. We've had a couple of accidents. He doesn't settle at night and jumps on window sills and pulls up carpet if a door is shut. It seems to be he's desperate for out. I was hoping to wait till after friday but that seems a little cruel.

Advice, experiences please? I don't think this cat was let out much with its last owner either.

How long have you had him for?

I decided not to let him out in the end as something told me he just wouldn't come back! At first he was just weeing in odd places, now he's spraying so while he's having his nadgers off, DS is going to granny and me and DH are shampooing carpets where he's been He peed - not sprayed on the sofa bed and all the scrubbing in the world ain't shifting the smell.

Have got him some new toys and both cat and DS have spent whole morning chasing ping pong balls round the front room.

Have spray gun with water in for at night as he keeps trying (and succeeding) to pull the capet up at the doors.

DS is less work than this cat!

If you live anywhere near a road it is much safer to keep him as an indoor only cat but you could build him a run outside for outdoor time. If you live in a remote area, you should wait about 2 weeks but I'd also spend maybe another 2 weeks with him outside under supervision until I let him go completely. Better safe than sorry!
