Excessive moulting in border collie bitch

She will be 1 on 26th Jan and I've never known a dog to moult so much, I'm constantly brushing the floors.

I know some dogs moult more than others but is there anything I can do which can limit the moulting or will I be in with a lifetime of brushing floors, lol?

Any advice would be gratefully received xx

Brushing them every day should help. Failing that then you have develop tunnel vision.

It can be a hormonal thing with bitches. Is she due/just finished a season?

My bitch was neutered and didn't moult overly. Went through her coat weekly with a slicker brush to take the undercoat out when it got bushy and stuck out.

A tip I found good is to put a pair of rubber gloves on and stroke the dog. This gets the loose topcoat off.

There are also supplements available that claim to reduce moulting. They seem to be based on cod liver oil, but no-one has ever convinced me that they work!

Other than that it's brushing/hoovering floors.

Unless you'd like to swap your collie for a manky Springer Spaniel...

no??

Thanks for all your replies

Macdog, I think I'll stick with my collie thanks but thanks for the offer

I'll give the daily brushing a go, I wouldn't mind the hair so much but we have a 4 year old who loves to drag himself along the floor resulting in hair-ridden clothes.

xx
