Why do all the water bottles on our guinea pigs cage break and end up dripping?

Have only had guineas since beginning of November and we have had 3 bottles.

Maybe it's the make of the bottles? We've had 2 guineas since August and are still on the first bottle with no problems. The pet store gave us a free one with the cage though and that was rubbish.

we had 2 cheaper bottles but the other one was a good make and cost us a fiver or something.

I can't believe that the expensive one has broken too,it is spring loaded as well.

I'm kind of thinking that DH wa sright in suggesting a hamster! Our guineas (Charlie and Lola but both girls) eat everything and never stop squeaking for food! They definitely eat more than their 5 portions of fruit and veg a day.

Getting a bit fed up of having to keep them inside until spring - hay and sawdust everywhere.

Our 2 girl guineas are the same ,they eat constantly and the ammount is unbelievable.
They are a bit like little dogs ,you only have to rustle something or open the fridge and they squeal.

Usual reason for leaking bottles is either bad design of bottle or you are attaching it to the cage too tightly. Bottles with two ballbearings inside the teat are less likely to leak (cheap ones usually have just one). You can hear the ballbearings knock together if there are two.

If the wire that came with the bottle is too short then it will squeeze the bottle and make it leak - I usually have to replace it with a piece of cut wire (you can use an old wire coathanger and cut that to size and shape it as neccessary.

Wouldn't be without my two guinea boys although they eat more hay per day than the average horse!

Hamsters are not so friendly and they smell more IMO
