Personal Health issues and puppy

Hey all.

Please don't judge me as typing this is difficult.. So we have a 10 week old puppy that I cannot give 100% to due to my health that has just started to happen and doesn't look to be getting better anytime soon.

Looking online I see we cannot sell the puppy because of Lucy Law, so selling appears to be out of the question.

Unfortunately finding a new forever home looks to be something we need to do and I have no friends or family who are able to take care of him.

What are our options? I tried to contact breeder but they appear to have moved recently and are not answering the phones. I feel hurt to type this and want to know what our options are?

Thank you for understanding

Oh op that sounds do hard. How long ago did you get the puppy? I honestly think finding a way to track down the breeder is your best bet. There will be lots of people who will want a young pup.

Sorry to hear this. Must be very difficult.

I think if you contact your local animal rescue, they may be able to help. People surrender their pets to rescue centres for all sorts of reasons and I bet a puppy would be snapped up by someone.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear this.

What breed is the pup? There are a lot of puppy farmers who will sell puppies, take your cash, and then ditch their burner phones like a drug dealer, shirking any responsibility for any issues you may have. A good breeder would have wanted to stay in contact for the pup's entire life.

Definitely best to contact your local reputable rescue. Selling privately is a minefield and sadly there's a high chance the poor pup will be sold on again or even end up being used for breeding.

A rescue will have a waiting list of people looking for puppies who are already homechecked and will be able to offer the adoptees a lifetime of a support. Definitely the best option.

FYI Lucy's Law only applies to licenced sellers such as pet shops or licenced breeders, not private owners who can no longer keep their pup.

Lucy's law applies to everyone to stop puppy farms pretending to be in the OPs situation - which is a very common con. If you can not contact the breeder the very best think to do is to contact a rescue.

@Lonecatwithkitten sadly, while it was marketed to be the case, that isn't what it is. I mean there's over 7,000 dog adverts on Gumtree right now alone.

Lucy's Law is really the much less catchy amendment to "The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018" which only applies to licenced sellers or licenced breeders - it doesn't even apply to backyard unlicenced breeders. And you're absolutely correct, dodgy puppy farms definitely shirk it and pretend to be private sellers.
