Dog attack

Not even sure what to title this.
Last week my dog escaped and attacked the dog next door who was walking the street alone (I wouldn't really say attacked looked more like they were play fighting at first but then got too excited and started nipping at each other)

This is very out of the blue for him to attack anyone and any animals, we've had him 4 years since a puppy.

He absolutely is the most friendly dog is forever looking to get petted and played with. The kids in our street absolute love seeing him in the front garden so they can play with him, he does have a loud bark because he's a Irishwolf hound.

The neighbours are understandably very upset and angry which I understand, we have paid for the vet bill she's very angry that we wouldn't rehome the dog or get him put down.

I'm very shocked that this even happens the weekend before this we had a birthday party at the house with some kids and a petting Zoo the whole time our dog laid in his bed came out for a wee play then back in. I've told them that is very unusual and out of character for him. She's now telling people In The street the attack was a lot worse than it was. We've have the vet bill here so know what treatment and medication they've been giving, the kids in the street are now longer playing with my daughter and she's absolutely devastated.

Not really sure how we can make this better unless we give the dog away

I would say make certain your gate is padlocked... She seems to have the potential to open it deliberately..

Put one of those letter box things on your gate...

I think your neighbour is putting too much blame on you

She was not there, was she? She did not witness it?

As a deerhound-cross owner (similar breed) I find that you have to be extremely careful as our dogs are so much bigger and stronger than any other dogs, and can injure dogs even in play.

Sighthound play can also look “aggressive” to those who don’t know sighthoubds.

And also, a wolfhound can take down a wolf (!), or any dog, if they are so inclined. My oldest deerhound X girl was attacked by a smaller dog once, and she rolled the dog over and pinned it down with no effort. Dog wasn’t hurt. But basically, if your fog had wanted serious damage, he could have easily done so

How badly hurt was the dog? How badly hurt is yours?

It’s a shame you already accepted all guilt/responsibility as it sounds as if your neighbours dig was not under control either. The scenario you describe sounds as if both dogs were involved, and not under control

What breed was it? some breeds, like cockerpoos, are very playful and want to play with my deerhounds but they’d get hurt if I let them

Sorry you’re going through all this

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 05/10/2021 11:06

I also have a padlock on my gate Grin as the neighbour’s cockapoo is often loose in the street 😨

I wouldn’t worry OP if the dog warden isn’t going to court then the woman has to take you to court yourself and it’s unlikely that she will get anywhere as the dog warden has said your dog isn’t aggressive

The vet bill shows that the injuries are consistent with a minor dog scuffle
I have big dogs and when they had a fight I got a £600 plus vet bill 😂£70 is like a broken nail in dog terms 😂
But for the future I would get a ring door bell so that you have some sort of proof

Wegobshite · 05/10/2021 11:16

Oh and if she starts spouting shit on Facebook or next door
List a copy of the bill😂😂
And explain that £70 bill is not consistent with a violent aggressive dog attack
£700 maybe but at £70 - £25 of that would be the consultation fee so £50 is the cost of the incident 😂

longtompot · 05/10/2021 11:25

Do you have a Ring doorbell or similar that can record? I would be very careful with regards to your dog as she sounds like she might want to escalate things. Keep an eye on any food stuffs that she might throw into your garden. She doesn't care about lying about the incident, and yes it must have been frightening, but from what you've written I would be very wary of her.

How dare she kick your dog!

What she’s doing is harassment.
