My cat has scratched my 2 year old and it looks sore

She is ill, so we make allowances and I told him to stay away as she had just had a mini funny turn, but he must have got near and she scratched him. Happened very quick as I only looked away for a couple of seconds.

DS seems quite proud of his scratch and was showing everyone at school.

You need to be a bit careful of cat scratches - they can turn quite nasty. Did you wash it when it happened? That's what I always do, the put a load of Savlon on, and keep Savlon-ing until it looks as if it's healing properly.

Is this the first time the cat has scratched him? I have quite a reaction to cat scratches - they go quite red and raised and stay like that for a while but usually begin to fade after a day or so. Maybe your DS is just a bit sensitive to these things - does he have bad reactions to insect bites or stings? Probably worth keeping an eye on it but I wouldn't worry too much unless it looks like it's getting worse.

Watch the wound closely for redness and swelling. seeker is right in saying that cat scratches can be serious (fgs don't go Googling!) - lots of washing in salty water and a visit to GP if even slightly concerned are order of the day.

I'm allergic to cats and the slightest scratch looks really really nasty on me.

BTW - I'm not sure that different people react differently to cat scratches - I think it might depend on what's under the cat's claws!

My 2yo is very "hands on" with our cats and has had the odd scratch (they're very good natured cats but have their limits) and I've never had any problem with them, all healed just fine. I sometimes dab it with a drop of teatree oil if it looks particularly sore but on the whole we've never had any sign of infection. My cats are house cats though, not sure if it would be different if they were outdoors types.

He seemed fine when I put him down. I was surprised how red it was, almost like it had bled but dried immediately.

The cat has scratched him a few times. She was very tolerant of the older 2 but has had enough of number 3 now she is ill.

She hurt him again today but he couldn't show me where
