My mummy is mean and made my food taste funny. Please help - Barty Cat

My mummy put worming granules in my food, the big meanie, so I'm now on an official sulk.
Can you suggest anything to her that would properly disguise the taste of worming granules? She just put it into my Whiskas but it didn't fool me!

leather gloves, an old towel and a frantic minute of swaddled cat should dothe trick, unless you are like our old cat who would hold the tablet in his mouth for over a minute, and the spit it out as soon as we released him...he was canny, that cat.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 07/12/2007 10:39

do you like pate Barty ? that would disguise the granules and make them taste nicer - it is for your own good, you know

GeekgirlRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 07/12/2007 10:42

or mashed up tinned sardines, or fish sandwich paste

NAB3littlemonkeys · 07/12/2007 10:43

Philly cheese.

OnACaffieneHigh · 07/12/2007 10:45

My 5 month old kitten happily ate her half worming tablet with it pushed into a bit of cheddar cheese... not sure how that would work with granules though

aWorminaManger · 07/12/2007 10:52

Don't eat it Barty! Take a stand for your inner worm!

CarGirl · 07/12/2007 10:56

if all else feels mix it in with that furball paste stuff and smear it on your paws. Okay you will not like the taste but you will like it off anyway

StaryNightSky · 07/12/2007 11:30

Ok, Its not just the taste its the colour.

Try mixing it with Chicken Gravy and pour it over something, preferably chicken!

Cat will eat it. Have fun

i use paste to worm my cat, wrap him in a tea towel and put the syringe in the side of his mouth and hey presto. he legs it afterwards but forgets in about 2 mins.

KittyLetteItSnow · 07/12/2007 11:46

Used to put ours in a little block of cheese

trixymalixy · 07/12/2007 12:06

My cats have it in tuna to disguise the taste.

they gobble the whole lot down and lick the plate!

Bob Martin does a 'squeeze on the neck' worming thingy (like the flea stuff) if it would help to avoid this situation altogther? We've got it, but I haven't tried it yet as our kitten isn't quite heavy enough.

Barty's mummy here! Ooh lots of good suggestions, thank you all.
Tablets are impossible, if you try to put it in something he has mastered the art of swallowing the treat and spitting the tablet out, hence why I use granules (which are given to me by the vet). Will definitely try the tuna/pate option next time

Do you know to stroke under his chin, sort of the neck area, when you have got the tablet in his mouth and that makes them swallow it.

Bouncingturtle · 07/12/2007 18:11

Nope that never worked - hence why vet only gives me granules now - I have a special plan with our vets, they supply worming & flea treatment and jabs for a monthly fee plus discounts on treatment - has saved us a bit of money over the years. My cat is not stupid, he is actually quite crafty. But he is sooo adorable, I forgive him being a complete PITA.

I've always crushed the tablets and put them in the tuna, not left them whole.

I've done that with Drontal and Milbemax.
