Does anyone have experience of getting a rescue parrot? I'm struggling to find a rescue centre with birds, and RSPCA have been no help. TIA.

Few links of parrot rescue / rehoming places in UK but I've no idea about any of them personally.

Good luck!!

Thanks Pinnigig. I assume you have guineas? I have a couple of crazy boars!

I rescued a cockatoo once and had a few problems with her

She was very lovely when she wanted to be but very attached to me to the extent that no one could sit next to me if she was out

Very vocal and screeched to high heaven if not out

Did not like men at all ( unclear of history )

Chewed a wooden door to pieces despite having more toys than the kids

I did love her but never understood how such a small pet could take over the dynamics of the whole family 🤭

Psitticines shouldn't be single-housed and generally are difficult pets that inadvertently end up neglected in inappropriate environments.

Unless you have the ability to offer appropriate social groupings, free flight, companionship, UV, and enrichment, it's unlikely you're able to meet the needs of a bird.

For these reasons rehoming is difficult as most reputable charities rehomed to specialist hobbyists who can provide for the needs of the birds

Thanks all - food for thought. I had birds growing up but they were smaller - mostly budgies.
I was aware of the gender preference thing and about some of the work involved. I will look into it further.
