Bearded Dragon Owners can u help?

Not exactly a questions about bearded dragons as such. My son has been keeping Morio Worms for our beardie, the worms have become diseased son says and we can't feed them to our dragon. This has also happened to some locusts before. It really upsets him and he doesn't know what the kindest thing to do is with diseased insects

Many thanks in advance

I've never had any that have been diseased, but you can kill them fairly quickly and humanely by popping them in the freezer and then bin them after.

What's actually 'wrong' with them? Just out of sheer curiosity?

My son says they possibly have mites? White mites? He's really upset about it as he feels like these are like his pets too!! He said it's really stressing him out :-(

I don't think they get mites. Is it a fungus or something?

Yes, it looks like it. Little white blobs on them.

My ds just showed me.

He is so upset. Blames himself and if he puts them in the freezer it's like performing genocide he says!! Confused

But he was going to feed them to the bearded dragon?!! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I've had a google. Does he think they're grain mites? I looks like they're fairly common and not thought to actually harm the reptiles, but a bit of a bugger to get rid of. There's an article by a gecko breeder if you google about how they got rid of them.

Could he feed the mealworms to the birds if he doesn't want to risk the beardies? Or just release them in the lawn and let nature take its course.

Yes I know! But he's been struggling with that recently too!

Yes, he said that's what he thinks it could be. I think its a good idea to feed to the birds. I will talk to him about it today.

I hate to say it, but if he's struggling with this a beardie may not be the pet for him!
