Not sure what to do

^I'm not sure what I need to do at this point, and I'm sorry if it's a long post. I'm thinking about taking him to the vets to be checked, because his behavior, I think, has changed slightly.

With life being busy, having my own stresses, severely mentally ill etc.. I've forgotten how old he is, so I have no clue. His mum passed away in 2019 - and I believe she was 17/18. She had cancer.

He was eating his dry food and I think I gave him too much because when his bowl was empty, or partly, I'd top it up. Now he's gone off his dry food entirely, eats small sections of tuna through the day as I give it to him morning, dinner and tea, and then whatever is left over from the one tin. Hope that's enough.

He licks the gravy from his wet food and only eats the food in tiny bits and leaves the rest to the point of me needing to throw it out as its spoiling.

He was born with two fangs too big for his mouth, so they hang over his lower jaw like a bat. He tilts his head from side to side while chewing? So is it his teeth? He won't let me anywhere near his mouth to check, he scratches me or runs off.

He's drinking, peeing a lot outside his litter tray even when it's clean, and his throwing up each day or so which looks like bile with fur in it? I brush him as much as I can until he gets sick of It.

He also tends to sleep a lot? Is that normal for cats? He also seems to be like... Running/rushing to the spot to pee, and to go back to his sleeping spot. I don't get it. I'm really worried about him.

Plus he looks skinny. He tends to fatten up when it's winter, though. Looks like he's starved, but he isn't. Im so stressed about him.^

You need to take him to the vet. It could be teeth(especially with going off dry food) , thyroid, food intolerances, kidney issues - all possible in an older cat. Tuna all the time won't be good for him and sounds like it's not enough for him, although of course he does have to eat something.

Yes, a trip to the vet is in order. Poor chap. Hope you get some answers

Clicked post too soon - I hope you find out what it is, all the above are treatable and you can greatly improve his quality of life.

Thanks guys. He's going Wednesday.

Yeah, I gave him the tuna to just keep him going until vets see him. He's gone distant from me and just keeps meowing when I'm close to him.

Glad you've got him booked in. Better to know what's wrong, although I know waiting for test results for them is nerve wracking. Good luck, hope the appointment goes ok.

Sadly he couldn't wait until the results.. I had to have him put to sleep 😔 two days after having my dog put to sleep with cancer.

Sorry to hear this. He was giving the signals that all wasn’t well and you heard them and responded, which is what responsible pet owners do. So sad that you have lost both your chaps within a few days of each other, you must be feeling very empty and bereft. What were their names?

Weeble09 · 05/09/2021 16:00

So sorry to read this, you did the best you could for him but that doesn't make it less heartbreaking for you xx
