Maybe lost kitten?

A new cat has come around our garden the last few days.

Is there somewhere to call? To check if she has a chip or something?

Anyways today I was in the garden with the kids and she came around again. She looks very slim and went I gave her a pat there were many bones.... I gave her some milk and she devoured it! So I gave her a little more.

She has a collar but no information whatsoever. Said collar has a bell so if she's lost she can't hunt the mice like the other cats around the block, if she's hungry.

What am I supposed to do?.... she's very tame and now is around my house without going away to her place. Let's see what happens.....

Vets will scan for chip.

Put a note on her collar and ask if she is owned

starfishmummy · 15/08/2021 08:19

Ask on your local Facebook page. And round here we have a lkst dogs and cats organisation, is there something like that where you are?

Theunamedcat · 15/08/2021 08:20

Water not milk many cats cant tolerate lactose

nordica · 15/08/2021 08:21

I would start by attaching a note on her collar with your phone number asking owner to call you.

If you take her to a vet for a chip check, only do so if you can transport her in a secure cat carrier to avoid escape in an unfamiliar area.

And cats are lactose intolerant, please don't give her milk.

It honestly just sounds like one of your neighbours have gotten a new kitten who they have just started letting out. Many kittens feel quite skinny when they are younger. If she has a collar on why would you assume she is lost?

I certainly wouldn't be encouraging her into your house or giving her milk.

frenchnovice · 15/08/2021 08:23

cows milk..If that's what you are giving, her is not good for cats.
take her to a vet and see if she has a microchip. .or ask on local fb. as to who she belongs to..someone local may have a chip reader.

grey12 · 15/08/2021 09:23

@FuckingFlumps if she didn't have a collar on I would suggest she might be a stray Wink she's skinny and VERY hungry. She's definitely new in the area and may have gotten lost. Detached houses in the vicinity. Don't remember any being for sale recently. The cats have very defined grounds they roam. The cats from this street don't mix with the ones from 20 meters down the road Grin

We're going to try to go somewhere to see if she is chipped

Why would the House have to have been up for sale? One of your neighbours has got a new kitten, it's a totally normal thing to do? Confused

Of course they mix with the other local cats. A cats territory can span miles. Also she's probably not actually hungry. I've never know a cat then down a meal even if they have only just eaten.

grey12 · 15/08/2021 09:47

Look, I've had cats and dogs before. I know the difference between eating a meal and stuffing it down Envy

No need to get frustrated. I've met many cats and dogs who eat meals like they have never been fed, my own 2 cats included. I was just offering an alternative viewpoint that it's quite possible she's not actually some starved lost stray.
Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 15/08/2021 09:52

My cats wolf dorm food then 5 mins later tell dh they are starving and wolf down a second dinner…
Don’t feed a cat with a collar, it belongs to someone and won’t go home if you’re feeding it all sorts of goodies. And for someone that says they know cats, you clearly don’t know not to feed milk Hmm

Open the door and put it outside. If you are that worried it’s lost, then post on Facebook and put up a poster or go and knock on some doors. Do not decide it’s a ‘stray’ and keep it, which seems to be the standard advice on here. It hasn’t ‘chosen’ you, it’s a cat who has been fed.

grey12 · 15/08/2021 11:18

It IS outside!!! Many cats jump over the fence to visit our garden. I don't want to put it out the front door because I don't know which way it came.

Like I said, if it is still around we're going to see if it's microchipped and take it back to their owners

We can't have a cat atm so we're not trying to keep it. We're just worried about the poor animal

I agree with this. OP nothing you've said suggests this is a stray cat. It sounds like she's hanging around because you're encouraging her with food and attention.
