Furball Cat Food & New Cat advice recommendations please

I have just bought 2 gorgeous fluffy cats from my local animal rescue & would like to avoid hair balls for them.

Appreciate recommendations please !

Also, one of them is hiding under the spare bed, probably terrified - should I take food up to him, or see if hunger send him out ?

The other cat is acting like she's lived here all her life : - )

Some people (cats really!) like the hairball diets and think they help prevent, others do not. In my opinion though the best way to help prevent them is to comb the cats on a daily basis even if they do not look like they need it. Katalax is a palatable paste you can get over the counter at the vets to help if they are having furball issues but is not a preventative, just a treatment for intermittant use.

You could try getting some feliway spray or a diffuser to help the scared cat to settle. I would put some food and water nearby and leave her to it though for a while. It takes a few days at least for them to start to settle in.

Enjoy your new cats.

Thanks - the black one has now been named Rosie by my DD. We had a lovely cuddle on the sofa where she was just shedding hair & I can feel some knots on her.

Perhaps a visit to the pet shop is in order.

I'll look up the feliway - thanks

Awww - they sound gorgeous. Are they both female? Are they siblings? Sounds like you have a dominant and a timid. The wee timid one will come out all in good time - just be gentle and use soft tones - it does take them a good while to settle in.

You can get furball paste form pet shops too. I would recommend brushing them also - it is very relaxing for you too - if they like it. Some of them hate it!

Are they pedigrees or moggies?

ENJOY

pleased to report that scaredy cat (beautiful fluffy tabby with white bit on face & white paws) is now out from under the bed. I decided to poke my hand down where he/she was & after jumping, 'it' started purring like mad & then jumped on the bed .

Gave 'it' a tour of the house & now can't stop purring . The black one is sleeping on my dirty washing, great eh ?!

I think they were kittens together & I assume they are fluffy moggies. They went into the rescue centre for an odd split up reason & then the owners came to take them back but the rescue centre gave them to me instead

They are girl & boy, not sure which is which as there was a mix up with them at the centre. I haven't managed to work them out yet

They are 4 & 4.5 yrs old & I love them !
