We have just adopted 2 x 4 month old kittens-called Smudge & Rascal. (piccies on my profile).

2 questions;

  1. We were told to feed them half a kitten pouch 3 x a day each, and also kitten biscuits.

Do I always leave them with biscuits, or once they've had their quota, do I leave them without. (One is slightly fatter than the other!)I don't want to over feed, but don't want them to be hungry either.

When should I go onto just dry food?

  1. One of them is very affectionate, and when he's on my knee he often 'headbutts' my chin in an affectionate way. What does this mean??

Very sweet !

the chin headbutting is just him asking for attention

I have a 5mo old kitten and a 9 year old cat (both neutered black males). The kitten eats the same as the adult cat, 3 x full pouches of wet food a day. He has a HUGE appetite ! Neither of mine like biscuit/dry food.

As a rule, cats are pretty difficult to overfeed. They self-regulate their diet (obviously there are a few exceptions to that rule...).

You can slowly phase out the wet food, giving them a smaller ratio of wet food to dry food each time to wean their stomachs off the wet stuff if you want to feed them only dry. Just make sure that both cats have a good supply of clean, fresh water at all times (especially important in a dry food only diet).

chinbutting is basically kitten kissing- aw!

Personally i won't feed dry ever again as apparently the vet said that may ahve contributed to our cat getting the bladder stones that killed him a month ago .
I never had any problems with iams mind, it was a different but similar brand.

Kittens need varying amounts based on weather, exact age, activity etc- I usually feed a kittena s much as they want a few times a day, and then remove the bowl. Three- four meals a day is good with littles, imo. Yo'll learn rapidly how much each will eat and you can go from there.

We ahd a Smudge once, curently haev a lilly and hoing to rehome another in the New Year
