Pet Insurance for a literal horde of animals

Does 10 count as a horde?

Was with petplan but with a low level of insurance, I've essentially found myself with an extra 3 kittens and a stray tomcat (who I've just got neutered).

That means if we add up the dogs and cats we have 10.

Bought by Many at 15k quoted £2500 for a year of insurance.

I really don't know what to do. Insure at a low level, save the extra? Self Insure completely? Suck the £208 a month up? I can afford it however in the 4 years I've had my spaniel, she's only been to the vets for her vaccinations.

Just looking for opinions really, am happy to insure but wondered what others did

Menagerie I'd call it lol. I'm just trying to work out the cost of insuring one rescue cat when I can get one!

Personally I'd pay it, you never know when you might need to claim.
I had to recently claim for my 3 year old dog and the total bill came to just over 10K for 2 days in the vets hospital and an operation.
We also had a cat that got poorly over the last few years off her life and claimed over £28k in 3 years, it's peace of mind for me. The last thing I would want to do is be faced with a huge bill or euthanasia if I couldn't afford it

We’ve gone the ‘save the premiums’ route and use that to pay the vets fees. Tbh apart from vaccinations and pts, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve made a vets appointment. Always had between 5-7 cats and dogs for 50 years.
But - it is a big risk going by some of the vets bills people on here have posted.

I have two dogs and eight cats, plus a stray that's just turned up. The premiums for so many are extortionate, so we have a savings account, plus a credit card that could be used if necessary. I'll be honest though and say that if anything was going to be 5-6 thousands plus then we'd probably euthanise, but the animals we have were ferals taken off the street, no rescue could take them, so I consider that if they have good care and if anything terrible were to happen that costs tens of thousands, then a humane end isn't the worst thing that could happen.

@sunshinesupermum I've got a rescue cat here if you want him lol. He's supposed to be going to Cats Protection but he's so lovely I keep looking at my other half who just shakes his head and informs me that double digits is not acceptable. Apparently 9 is that much better than 10.

And yes - it would be a huge risk, doesn't take much. I guess I just feel like I've wasted £3k already with my lovely spaniel being insured and no vet trips made. But then again is it a waste?

I think if I had two pets I wouldn't be in a quandry, but with a "menagerie" I do wonder. Having said that, one of the little rotters (10 month old sperrier) did run out of the front door this afternoon, cue laughing from the neighbours as I chased him down the street in my slippers!

@Stickytreacle yes that the way we view it. They have a bloody good life in the meantime !

The dogs aren't feral, but 5 of the 6 cats were. The kittens are alright they're becoming less wild every day and the cats have settled down but they're also getting to have a better life I would like to think with me.
