What can I do about this injured cat??

Ok I've named changed for this because I'm going to have to give some possibility "outing" information.

Theres a cat in my street that has an injured eye. It's been like this for months now. At first the eye itself was really bad, red, swollen with lots of pus.
I saw the cat again the other day and now although the eye itself looks better, it has a large sore underneath the eye. Its red raw and looks like a big hole. I'm not sure if its healing (as in the eye looks better but now theres this big hole underneath it so maybe part of a healing process?? Its red and looks sore but theres no pus there now) or what but it look really bad.
Not sure of the age of the cat. But it's been here since I've lived here so at least 7 years old.
It's just been so long now surely if the owners were treating it properly it would be cleared up??
Idk what to do because I dont know who the owners are or where the cat lives, it definitely lives on my street as I see it there all the time but not sure where exactly, it's a small street/area though.
I was thinking of ringing the RSPCA but as I dont have an address I'm not sure if they will come out in hope's of just seeing the cat out and about in the street.
Also I see that the RSPCA dont take anonymous calls, I dont want them to tell whoever these owners are that it was me. It's a very quite steet/area and it will cause trouble for myself, I really just want to get this cat some help.

What can I do??
If it matters I live about 25 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne. (Just incase anyone knows of any local cat charity's)

Put it in a cat carrier and get the poor thing to a vet today!! Loads of charities. Google one!!

Queenie6655 · 09/06/2021 09:48

Thanks for taking the time to consider this

Poor wee thing xx

Poorkitty · 09/06/2021 09:55

I don't have a cat carrier so I cant do that.
I'm currently on hold to the RSPCA though so I'm going to see what they say/do.

I will update.

Most vets sell the cardboard boxes. Or have spare plastic ones.... I left ours at the vet when dcat was pts. They loan them out apparently...

tabulahrasa · 09/06/2021 10:19

The RSPCA don’t tell the owners who called btw, they just don’t let you do it without them knowing who you are.

Poorkitty · 09/06/2021 10:36

Ok so the RSPCA lady has given me an incident number, she said I can catch the cat and take it to the vets with the number and they will treat it.
They I have to let them know.
So I'm off to get ready, find a box and catch the cat. 😃

I'll keep updating.

Makes sure the box is very very strong... Dcats can escape some proper carriers never mind a box!
Ime!! My dd drive home with 2 dkittens rampaging round her car!!
Obviously she stopped and put them back in!!
They are still buggars!

Poorkitty · 09/06/2021 10:42

Hahah yes I will 😆 I have a feeling I have an old cat carrier somewhere.
I'll have to hunt in my minging old shed for it but I'm sure I do.

What a day this has turned out to be!

It's great that you're getting help for this poor cat. In terms of trying to catch it, you might want to buy a pack of Dreamies cat treats to try and lure it-most cats love them and it might help.

Juneisjoyful · 09/06/2021 10:44

Oh and congratulations on your new dcat!!

PineappleAce · 09/06/2021 10:46

Keep us posted. Poor cat. If she has owners they don't deserve her!

Poorkitty · 09/06/2021 11:06

Damn. Cant find a key for the shed so I cant look for the carrier. Ah well it was a stab in the dark anyway.

I'll ask my neighbour if she has one as I dont have a suitable box.

The more I think about it. I havent reported anyone so cant see it coming back on me in any way. All im doing is taking the cat to get treatment 🤷‍♀️

Hahha I know I'm imagining me getting to keep the cat after all this too 🤣

Also, I'm armed with tuna aka, cat crack 😆

Try your local rescues for a carrier, or local FB groups, if your neighbour doesn't have one. You don't need to say why you need it. And ask the vet to scan for a chip when you get there, so the owner can be found (then if they've left the cat untreated, the RSPCA know who to go after). Poor little cat :(

Weeble09 · 09/06/2021 17:28

Also, thanks for caring about the cat, not everyone would take the time to do this.

Poorkitty · 09/06/2021 19:05

Well I've gone up the street 3 time today but cant see the cat, good job the RSPCA didnt come as it would have been a waste of their time.
As I said earlier its just little street so I'll keep popping out a few times a day until I find him/her.
I rang the local vet to double check that I could use them so I know exactly where to take DCat when it's been caught.
Its quite friendly and always walks over and meows any time I've seen it (which is how I got a good look at its eye) so I dont think it'll be hard to get a hold of. Its just the case of being out at the same time. It often sleeps under the cars on the street so I'll look there and have nosy into the gardens.
I explained the situation to the vet and they said it's fine to bring in whenever I've caught it, obviously the sooner the better for the cat but it's not like the code the RSPCA gave me has time limit on it ot anything.

I'll update when I've caught DCat. 🤞

Good luck OP.

I’ve taken a few strays/cats with crap owners to the vet for various issues.

You’re doing a good thing. Poor cat.
