VET CONSULATATION FEE EVERYTIME?

KittyletteItBe · 19/11/2007 15:23

Im taking my bunny for its first check-up today, registration and a nail clipping.

I cant cut its nails so will have to take it to the vets every 4-6 weeks, its £7.50 to have this done.

But will i have to pay the £19 consultaion fee that I have to pay today everytime I want his nails doing? Or is the consulation fee because of the check-up?

Thanks x

I would be very surprised if they charge you the full fee for every nail clip. Just ask them tonight.

Agree with Chubby.
Could you learn to clip the nails yourself, or is there a special problem?

No special problem, just cut the 'quick' of my other rabbit a few years back and the blood was everywhere, scared the hell out of me!

Ask if their nurses run clinics for this sort of thing. We do these and do not therefore need to charge owners consult fees for a simple nail clip, only a nail clipping fee.

My vet never charges a consultation fee for nail clipping - you could always ask a nurse to do it for you.

Why not buy a pet nail file? You can get them really easily on ebay - they're made of metal and its a great way to keep the nails down yourself at home (no vets fees) and helps to socialise the rabbit too.

I just stick the run on the patio for a few days a fortnight, this seems to keep them under control - no good if house rabbit though.

Ours asks for a donation for clipping nails.

I took 4 guinea pigs to have their nails done the other day - and not all the claws needed trimming - their front feet are usually ok its the back ones that grow longer...and my vet charged me £15 per pig!!! I almost passed out when I went to pay the bill - £60! I complained and left the bill unpaid, which I've never done in all the years I've used this particular practice. In the end they knocked 50% off.

This is why I either trim their nails myself or I use a nail file. During the summer they are always out on the patio/concrete but its not so easy during this time of year.
