Reptile owners.....

How much would you pay a teenager(16 yr) to look after your reptile while you're away?

We have a bearded dragon. The teenager has always grown up with beardies. She is going to come in twice a day. Am to feed, make sure lights on etc...clean if needed and then evening again.

Many thanks in advance:-)

I guess I depends on the costs and effort required for the teenager, like how far they live away from yours and if they need to supply food.

Most reptile shops around here provide boarding at a rate of around £2 per day and they supply the bugs/salad etc.

DD16 feeds neighbour's cat twice a day for a fiver a day or £30 for a full week. She probably spends about 30 mins there each day (ie it works out at £10 per hour). It's not difficult but quite responsible, taking care of an animal and locking up again afterwards. Obviously there is no travel time for DD.
A professional cat feeder might stay a bit longer but would be £10-£12 per visit so the neighbour is happy at the saving but so is DD.

I have a Beardie and a gecko, I paid my 18 year old neighbour £50 for the week. The gecko is no bother as he's just on the powdered food mixed with water, but my Beardie likes a daily bath, and he poos in there. I supply the bugs, but a new bag of salad is required part way through the week.

There's no "proper" boarding at all locally, so if I had to put them to someone else it'd be a 40 mile round trip to drop them off.

We take our gecko to the local exotics centre when we go away and they charge £2 a day.

Thanks everyone. We have no boarding locally. The girl lives less than 10 mins away, walking distance. Reading your replies I'm thinking £30 for Mon-Fri, does that seem OK? All food provided.

I think that sounds about right.

I pay a friend's 17 year old £10 a day to feed multiple pets (3 cats, outdoor pets, rodents) and water plants. She loves it, spends about half an hour twice a day. Easy money for her and way cheaper than a Cattery for me. She makes herself a drink and sits and gives the cats some attention as well which they all love.

We give out ndns dd (17) £50 to check in with our tortoise for a week. Fresh water every day, weeds topped up (box in the fridge) and spot check for poo. Takes her less than 5 minutes.
He usually lives outside but we move him indoors to his table if we’re going away.
