hope you enjoy the time you have left with Nibbles, lisa.

we had to put down our old Persian cat a month ago. his heart was in the last stages of failure. he just fell ill over the weekend and it went from there.

it's still so hard.

but gizmo's words made me smile. so true.

If you have the time to ensure she is warm, getting enough to eat and is calm and happy and not in pain, then your decision is fair.

So long as you keep an open mind if she deteriorates.

I suppose your decision also depends on how much time and attention you can devote to keeping her clean, dry ect in the condition that she is in. I know I wouldn't have the time, which sounds horrible, but is true. Also, just be careful as it may be more distressing for your child to watch the rabbit deterioate - I had many pets as a child, and the worst memories I have are of pets that took a long time to die, through age or illness - really horrible, and it stays with you. I had my beloved jack russel put to sleep, nearly 4 years ago, as his standard of life had got so bad, and he could hardly walk, see or eat. I'd had him since I was 15, and don't think I can ever get another dog even now, he was just my best mate. But I know I did the right thing. I felt more guilty watching how he struggled.
Good luck, it is very hard x

lisa, ive just picked this up. What a loving owner that bunny has. Remember the gut feeling thing i told you about, go with that. Can i offer some advise about the bathing. Maybe think about popping Nibbles to the vets and getting her bottom end clipped, that way you could just clean the area twice a day and it wouldn't be so traumatic for her. You could do this whilst laying her on her back in your arms, like a baby. Rabbits find this extremely relaxing, to the point it can look like they have died! I know this because the first time my rabbit did this i was horrified, they just go off to sleep like they are hypnotised or something, apparently lots of (not all) bunnies do this. Could you also consider bringing her indoors? I would definately take her along to the vets though as i imagine that his advice is going to be different this time re the putting to sleep. 99% of the time the rabbit would be put to sleep because owners dont have the time or inclination to give the care you are. Just make sure that nibbles is mobile and able to hope out of any piddle she does as that would be awful for her. The vet may be able to advise some barrier cream, yes, thinking on that, we used to use drapolene (im sure they still do this for babies) for urine scold.

Good luck
