How do you tell a class of 8 year old your cat has eaten the class goldfish?

One of our year 4 teachers took Sparkly and Sharkey home for half term.
One day she came home & found her cat looking smug and the two goldfish lying on the carpet, dried up, eyes bulging and their tails gone.

She doesn't want to tell her class what happened because she thinks it'll make them hate the cat - and they helped her choose it as a kitten when they were her year 3 class.

So can anyone think of a convincing story to explain the two new fish she's about to buy.....

I agree, dont all goldfish look the same, just get new ones they will never know the difference

RustyBear · 05/11/2007 16:35

She couldn't find any the same - she's bought two that are very similar, but much smaller but so far she's put off bringing them in.
I told her she should confess & trun it into a PSHCE lesson.....

yes a quick lesson on the circle of life

No solutions but am very relieved that I misread the title. I saw "How do you tell your class that an 8 year old has eaten the class goldfish"!

CarGirl · 05/11/2007 16:49

it's been a couple of weeks they may not notice they are smaller???? Really I think she should confess and buy a lid for the tank though!

We won the class goldfish in an end of year raffle. It died, as did our own two fish who we put it in with. Fish die. Frequently and for many reasons. Old age is a good one!

NAB3sparklesandflashes · 05/11/2007 16:57

I agree. Say the fish died of old age or were poorly as some fish can live to a good age. Don't blame the cat!

She has now confessed to the class (that the fish died, not that her cat was responsible) & they are currently arranging a poll for names for the new fish. I believe the front runners are currently 'Dr Who' and 'Martha'!
