Our ats aren't bothered by my dog (rescued greyhound) is another story, we have had him 4 months and he has settled well. omg fireworks going off he is in such a state he is messing himself

Even us comforting him makes no difference. How are your animals coping?

Poor chap

I used to a know a family with a very nervous dog (I think it was a rescued whippet), they used to have to have the vet sedate him for the night on bonfire night. Of course nowadays the bloody things are going off from Nov 1st onwards.

My cats are fine with it. Even the slightly wussy old boy is coping fine, so long as the blinds are closed and he is sat on our knee or right up next to us.

Mine struggles to light the fuses with her paws, but somehow can easily manage sparklers

Probably too late now but it is helpful to make a den area (literally like a cave) as they feel safer here... my mum put a towel hanging down from the stairs (the dog bed is under the stairs) which helped her dog

LOL Pesto!

I give our border collie one of my sleeping tablets..

It works a treat.

It was recomended by a MN vet.

Our dog spent yesterday evening hiding behind the toilet in the downstairs loo

Mine is quite nervy in some respects (nearly 7 months old springer) - scared of cats despite (or because of?) living with them from birth but not remotely bothered by fireworks. We watched a shoot yesterday and the gunfire doesn't affect him either, I guess it's bred into them.

My cat's not too bothered. She stays in more. If she's outside she seems to disappear for ages and eventually creeps back in again.

She does lack emotion, my cat.

My cat is 13 and she is terrified every year. I try and get her to cuddle with me on my lap but she prefers to hide under my bed or behind the sofa. The fish are oblivious and I think the hamsters aren't bothered either way.

ChasingSquirrels · 04/11/2007 18:04

our dog is less bothered this year than before - I think she is going deaf

NAB3sparklesandflashes · 04/11/2007 18:52

I can't find my cat at the moment.

My 2 cats are intrigued by them.
My dog is a nervous wreck.

My previous cat (the beautiful Grace) hated them and would spend the few nights hiding.

Our new arrival (Drusilla) couldn't give a stuff and is currently flat out on the back of the sofa.

i think my dog must be mad. he loves them. he was trying to get out last night and when i took him for a walk he just sat on the pavement watching them
