What was your experience, or your cat's rather, when you suddenly introduced a puppy into their life's?

Our young beloved cat is a rescue cat and have some underlying anxiety issues. He is very settled at home. Now my family wants a dog. They so badly want a dog and I am very worried for the cat's mental health. Will he run away?
Would you do such a thing?

No I wouldn’t.
I have a nervous adopted cat. There is no way I would risk upsetting her by bringing a dog into the house. I took her on so she is priority. I don’t think a rescue centre would have rehomed him with you if you said you intended to get a puppy tbh.

We had 2 older cats and introduced a smallish 2 year old dog that had lived previously with cats.

Cats are the boss.

I got a puppy about 18 months ago and I already had a 14 year old cat who I got as a rescue when she was a kitten. Cat is pretty chilled out so I thought she would be ok with it. Anyway the cat didn’t like the pup and hissed if he came close. She retreated to other parts of the house and kept out of the pup’s way. As the puppy was with us all the time the cat ended up separated from us a bit and I felt bad about it for a long time. It took about a year until the cat accepted the dog and they are fine together now. I think this also coincided with the puppy being less bouncy.

At first the stayed up high out of the way.

Dog was anxious about being in a new home so was glued to my side/lap for several days. Within a week they could lay close to each other on the sofa.

Dog would be cautious about trying to sniff their bums without them noticing 😂

Being the boss boy cat used to occasionally swipe at her face. She may have received a teeny tiny scratch twice in 6 years?? DDog of course acts like it was a near death experience 🙄

Boy cat behaves in a similar way to his sister and tbh usually it's because he's bored and wanting to be annoying.

I had a dog adverse cat, but he was fine when we got our puppy. We made sure he had areas he could go which was away from the puppy which really helped. Our dog also had her crate in the hallway, so he could walk past, get used to her smell and noises, and she could get used to him. He tells her off and sometimes has a swipe of her, in a okay full way, as she walks past. She sometimes looks frightened to walk past him! She has however gone for him a couple of times, the most worrying was when she had his head in her mouth (mouth was open, no biting) which really unnerved us, but this was food related and she is a bit of a food guarder.
