It’s that time again...

A few months ago I battled, BATTLED fleas for my cat. He had 3/4 different types of treatment, the house was stripped bare and sprayed. It took a month of solid work but they went eventually with bravecto. He was fine with bravecto; albeit very cuddly which is not like him.

He now needs his 3 monthly one again, but I’ve found myself in the pit of google research that bravecto is bad. Can anyone suggest otherwise? It’s the only thing that’s worked I’d rather use something that works but ultimately... I don’t want to harm him.

Any ideas?

What do you mean by bad? All of the treatments can have side effects. Your cat obviously was ok last time so why wouldn't they be ok this time?

Is there any reason why you don't just get your flea treatments from the vet? Ours has a monthly payment that covers flea, worming and yearly flu jabs and all the flea treatments we've had from the vets have been effective. We currently use Advocate.

Bravecto is a vet treatment and needs a prescription if buying online

I would be buying it from the vet. Last time they said I could have it this time (if that makes sense).

I'd use whatever worked tbh

So you've just been waiting for the Bravecto dose to elapse? In that case, see what the vet recommends. The current favourites seem to be Stronghold (which also covers ticks) or Advocate / Advantage, which are different brands with similar active ingredients but they don't cover ticks. They're all monthly spot ons and are easy to use.

Bravecto is used every 12 weeks. OP now needs more and the vet says they can have the same again

Advocate covers fleas and some worms and is prescription only

Advantage only covers fleas and can be bought OTC

Ah. I think I may have confused Advantage with Prinovox.

Yeah sorry bravecto is 3 monthly. He’s due 11th feb but I’m just concerned that although he was fine once, there’s a lot of bad reviews/side effects/stories of death online and wondering if there was a good alternative.

Tbh there's stories like that about all of them if you look for them. I'd take most of it with a pinch of salt. Anything recommended by the vet will be fine, so I wouldn't worry about continuing with Bravecto if the vet thinks it best (it may have advantages when used where there's been an active infestation, for instance, I don't know) but you can always ask about changing to a monthly spot on if you're not getting on with it (I'm so used to monthly, I'd get confused with a 12 week schedule myself!).
