Bloody vaccination has made kitten sick

Both our kittens had their first vaccinations on Thurs - both had squitty poos yesterday and then one kitten has been not eating and retching since yesterday lunchtime. Taking her to vet at 3pm today but am really worried - is it usual for kittens to have reaction like this to jab?

With any vaccinations reactions can happen with people as well as with animals. My cat get a high temp and does the 'wall of death' round my living room for an hour each time he has his Felv vacc. Had to ring emergency vet the first time it happened- scared the hell out of me! My other cat has no reactions to vaccines.

thaks, Dustin - wall of death? sounds awful - what is it?

have just done some fish and she's not at all interested.

will she be OK? I'm really worried.

'Wall of death' means he was whizzing round my living room and bouncing off the walls. You have your vet appointment soon so I am sure they will sort her out. Hope she is better soon. Take care x

right, back from vet and he has given her an anti-emetic injection, plus a binding paste Kaolin-like paste. He says it COULD be vaccine-related but would be unusual if it was.

he also saw a HUGE flea on her - they were Frontlined 5 weeks ago, had no idea she had fleas on her, poor thing!

Wishing your kitten a speedy recovery.

she hasn't eaten anything yesterday and can't even tempt her with fresh-cooked chicken - am worried about her. she doesn't seem interested. what could it be?

Dinny - have you phoned the vet again? Is she drinking at all? Sounds like you need a chat with the vet.

dinny · 28/10/2007 15:30

she just had a teaspoon of water

can you phone vets on Sunday?

OP posts:
Theclosetpagansbesom · 28/10/2007 15:32

Yes - there will be an emergency service and the vet will ring you back. Only drawback is that there is likely to be a call out charge if he does need to see her.

dinny · 28/10/2007 18:37

she has drunk some water about 3 times since I last posted and (touch wood) kept it down, so think will hold off till tomorrow am.

the vet yesterday said bring her back Monday if she hasn't improved. she is soooo lovely, will be gutted if it is anything sinister

Sending lots of good vibes to your kitten dinny. Hope the IV stuff helps her - are they giving antibiotics or just fluids?

dinny · 29/10/2007 12:50

both, he said

she doesn't have a temperature though - odd and worrying

Hi dinny - how's your kitten doing this morning? Hope she had a better night and is improving.

dinny · 30/10/2007 20:27

thanks for asking, Theclosetpagansbesom , she is SO much better I can't believe it! she's been pretty much her old self - jumping on the work surfaces (much to the annoyance of her sister who can't yet do it), sitting on dh's shoulder, purring, drinking, eating a good amount and SO loving it's untrue. Amazed at her turnaround and thanking goodness the vet saw fit to do an IV yesterday.
