Cat fussy eating

Has anyone had a cat that’s started not eating their wet food but will eat the wet food jelly and biscuits? Mines been doing it since Friday night and not sure if it’s a bigger issue than he’s just being fussy? Thanks

Cats are fickle wee shites. My 2 do it all the time, one more than the other. They still eat the dry food though

Thank you! Although I grew up with cats these 2 are my first experience of owning them so I think anxiety is heightened that something might be wrong ... they are behaving normally otherwise so I’ll try not to worry!

Probably sheer feline bloody mindedness. The big question: would he like a different kind of wet food, or is it all wet food he's turning his snout up at? I'd be wary of a cat only getting nutrition from dry food because I know ours wouldn't be getting enough liquid. He's a poor drinker from his water bowl. So could you try a few different varieties and see if any find favour?

We haven’t changed the variety so it’s what they are used to! He is drinking his cat milk and eating the food jelly which is odd - just the meaty chunks he’s turning his nose up at!

Not having changed the variety might be part of the problem. We worked out with our furry overlord that he just gets bored of one flavour or brand if he has it for more than a few meals in a row. So we have a wide selection of high-quality grain-free wet food and he gets different cans or pouches at random. Last week he decided out of nowhere that he suddenly didn't want the chicken flavour of a particular brand. It's no biggie because we have so many alternative.
But you do need to solve the problem, because your lad might not be getting all the necessary nutrients from jelly plus dry.

BTW an adult cat really doesn't need cat milk! They should only drink water.

dementedpixie · 22/11/2020 16:07

If the dry food is a complete food then he should still be getting plenty of nutrients

Oh I didn’t know that about milk, I just gave them some when they first arrived and they lapped it up ... I’ll wean it out of their diet!

He’s eaten a small bowl of wet food this afternoon, meaty chunks and all but I’ll mix up the flavours. Are the pouches much of the same? I don’t want to swap brands and give him a dodgy tummy! Thank you!

I've had 8 cats and six dogs in my lifetime, not one a fussy eater. The cats had preferences, sure, and of they liked fishy flavour more than chicken I got that, but basically if they were hungry they ate whatever I gave them.
As long as they are not sick then I'd just ignore it and feed them the usual stuff.
