New neighbour's aggressive cat

We have new neighbours - they are lovely but have a very aggressive cat. Our own cat has been in massive fights with it two nights running - he came in limping this evening looking traumatised. The new cat is completely brazen and has taken over our garden.

Any tips on how we can handle this? I don't want to fall out with the neighbours. Our cat normally spends all day outside and comes in at night - he likes to roam and would be very unhappy if we kept him in.

Agree that you start with water to try and get rid of it. The aggressive one that threatened mine made the mistake of coming into my house and couldn't get out ( cat flap was in only).

His face of horror when he realised he couldn't get back out was funny.

How is your cat Hoxton? Okay I hope.

@Medievalist - he's ok thanks! I took him to the vet today - no bite marks or abscesses but very sore front and back leg and holding himself like he is very elderly. The vet has given him anti-inflammatories and he needs to stay in for 5 days.

He seems quite traumatised and pooed all over the sofa last night. We didn't realise and my son sat in it It this morning! Cue much hysteria and running around on my poor son's part. I bought some Feliway at the vets today to see if that will help calm him down - the cat - not my son.

DH is going to talk to the neighbours - he is at home more and likely to bump into them. I also find situations like this a bit tricky to handle - DH tends to know what to say!

In other news, my Super Soaker has arrived, and I intend to use it...

You are not the only one with a Bengal neighbour.

Thanks Fanny - that looks like a lovely thread - I will have a proper read.

I don't have any feelings of good will at all to our neighbour's cat. It is extremely beautiful but I feel so upset for my cat right now. The whole thing has made me feel very territorial on his behalf. Hmm

That's the first of 3 threads. To warn you, every one starts off with advising to use a water pistol and ends with "just let him in, he lives there now" Grin

They're cats. Yours probably beats up smaller cats. If you let them roam this happens. Cat run or rollers on your fence to stop it. Or just carry on getting vet bills.
