So carried out the dogs usual flea and worming treatments on friday.

The flea treatment has literally burnt the back of the poor dogs neck!!
I've bathed him and cleaned all the area, i feel bloody awfull.
He's had this treatment before and no reaction.
I will check him again in the morning to see if it still looks as angry, buy definitely a vet job. Anyone experienced this before?

Yes, had this with our late Maine coon. It was treated at the vets wasn't straight forward at all.

Call your vet, it hurts and might keep burning into the flesh, if not treated correctly.

@giantangryrooster i planned on ringing anyways for advice on what best to do.
I just didnt know if this had happened to anyone before as I've never heard it to.
What was the cause for it to happen tp your dog if you dont mind me asking

My cat Smile. No reason was given except that some pets can't tolerate certain products, I can't remember exactly, but think it was Advantage she didn't tolerate. It took a long time for it to heal.

@giantangryrooster oh sorry i assumed dog 🤦‍♀️ he's just a little 4YO pug so it will no doubt be hurting. I'll get him checked asap tomorrow if possible.
Thank you 😊

Advantage - the best for fleas and ticks.
Advocate is the world's best flea, tick and worm control agent.
Better not!

This is also:

But there are other active ingredients.

I once applied some Bob Martin stuff to the back of a cat's neck and he freaked like it burned him. It wasn't my cat so I warned the owner (my brother) and resolved never to use the stuff for any of my own pets.

Zoey92 · 21/10/2020 21:49

I've had him to the vets and low and behold definitely a burn not just a allergic reaction.
Vet shaved the area and oh my god it was definitely alot worse than i could forat originally see.
@OnceUponAnEnzyme it was also bob martin

I knew it bloody would be! The stuff should be banned.

OnceUponAnEnzyme · 21/10/2020 21:58

Poor dog! Sad

Zoey92 · 21/10/2020 22:48

@OnceUponAnEnzyme I'll most definitely warn others away from it from now on.
Disgusting that a product to "help" your pet actually cause such harm to them.

I'm glad you had it seen. Don't know if the vet told you. But when you eventually put on flea treatment again avoid that area even though it has healed.

I has this with our Mainecoon. It caused some really awful problems and looked really painful. After trying many - In the end we've moved to oral tablets for her that the vet ordered in especially. £70ish but for six treatments - one a month, so no worse than the spot on really. Covers fleas and ticks. She will only tolerate it in the easi-pill putty which the vet also gives us. One with the pill and one without. Like play doh dreamies

rosesandcashmere · 21/10/2020 23:05

NB we were using frontline, tried advantage - same issue if not worse. So far the pills have worked a treat and they do them for dogs too.

timeforanewstart · 29/10/2020 10:34

I always use stuff from vets

timeforanewstart · 29/10/2020 10:35

I also use pills for mine as he had bad reaction to topical but not that bad poor dog , some slate tablets i use but my dog seems fine on them but i guess its different for every dog
