Cat with injured leg hiding in box.

Hi,

First, I am an expat living abroad for over 5 years so excuse my lack of English for technical terms!

This morning we noticed our cats hind legs were swollen :( We took her to the vets and had an x-ray to find she has injured her back leg. The vet gave her anaesthesia and rubbed on the wound to get the 'puss out.' We got home and arranged an empty room so she can rest it out for a few days without DS harassing her. We put her comfy bed in there which she loves, food and water. I've been checking up on her hourly.

She is still out of it, her eyes are open but she isnt completely herself :(
just now I went to check up on her and found her nestled in the shoe box. The shoe box is a big dark packing box filled with shoes. I am now in 2 minds - I think I should take her out and put her back in her comfy bed but then I am scared I may injure her and think maybe she went in there because it is 'snug' and dark???

She surely cannot be comfortable in there>

What do you think??

She’s injured and the natural instinct is to hide so as not to be vulnerable to predators.
Is it possible to, without disturbing her, move some shoes and put something soft and comfortable in there so she could switch position on her own and get onto the soft bit?

@LadyFannyButton

I will do exactly that.. it is quite high, do you think I should put something nrxt to it to act as steps to help her get down comfortably?

I would leave her to her own devices as much as possible but it's a good idea to make sure she can get out of the box easily and has the option of a comfy blanket in her chosen space.

Did the vet give her antibiotics? Hoping she recovers soon.

Yes put something there as a step so she doesn’t hurt herself further getting up/down or in/out.
I hope she’s better soon.

My dc did something similar earlier this year. I ended up putting a fleece lined box next to where she was hiding. After a few hours of looking very uncomfortable and lots of glaring at me, she gave in and went in her box.

The box is now here favorite place to sleep.

So I wouldn’t move your cat, but put something soft and comfy as close as you can.

Thank you so much for your help!

I put in a clean soft towel onto the side of shoes. She managed to push it off and continued to lay on top of shoes! She's doing so much better. I found her in her litter tray just sitting in it. I don't think she had the energy to get out :( I hope the anaesthesia will wear off quick. I hate seeing her like this.

Just found out the complete story from DH, she had a wound on her leg?? I am just curious how she could have gotten a wound? She is our only pet, been with us for 3 years with no problems. She's very careful and is completely an indoor pet
