Help..... Our kitten oh so cute is pooing wherever he fancies and its not nice neat poo either!!!
Sometimes when he can be bothered he goes in his litter tray and sometimes even outside but more often than not he goes poo anywhere in our house. I am fed up cleaning it up. Any advice gratefully received.

Does he go anywhere in particular? We had this with 1 of our kittens and ended up with 3 litter tray - all in the places she liked to poo. We then gradually moved them to where we wanted the trays and she managed to get it.

Sprinkle pepper in his favourite corners.

Fi33 · 10/10/2007 21:43

Seems to be anywhere in our conservatory (where we have 2 litter trays in any event) and any doorways in the rest of the house...

We also moved the litter tray to the site of action!

Fi33 · 10/10/2007 21:44

Pepper is this a proven practice or am I being gulible?

It was a trick used by my granny. Our cat had 5 kittens this year, they shat bloody everywhere, she happened to be visiting and put pepper in all their favourite corners. It worked!

maggymay · 11/10/2007 18:58

We used pepper and tin foil and orange peel LOL all worked well room sure looked pretty with tim foil around the edges and sprinkled with pepper and orange peel, you could also try putting its food bowl in the favourite areas it likes to use as they dont like to mess where they eat

i ahve this with my kitten too
its really getting me down - i have stopped letting dd ask her friends home just now because its so disgusting
my kitten does it in the living room - dh is against the idea of having a litter tray in the living room but does it really work? if it does i think i will move it an inch a week or something to where i would prefer tray to be

PLEASE SOMEONE WILL THIS WORK???????

Spiderhammer · 12/10/2007 14:47

I'm having this with one of my kittens too. The other is really good and always does it in the litter tray but her sister is the disgusting one. She also has long fur and poo sticks to it and smells. YUK.

I've switched them onto IAMS dry food now and their poos are better as well as slightly less smelly (They were on Whiskas before and apparently it's got sugar in it).

I remember my dad rubbing my kittens nose in it when we were kids.

Spiderhammer · 12/10/2007 14:48

My grubby kitten is also weeing wherever she chooses it seems.

nailpolish · 12/10/2007 16:50

ah
we are using whiskas kitten food too as that is what she got at the shelter
im trying wean her onto dry food 0 science plan stuff - but shes no' very happy

Spiderhammer · 12/10/2007 16:54

No mine weren't. The dry food looks really unappetising but it's better for them. Their poos are less sloppy and less smelly on it too.

I still doing a mixture of Whiskas and IAMs just becuase I bought a load of Ws and have to use it up.

I can't wait to get the both the hell out of the house for their business. They get their second jabs next week.

nailpolish · 12/10/2007 20:15

my kitten gets her second jabs next week too
do you ahve to wait til they have been neutered before you can let them out? thats another 4 months!

nailpolish · 12/10/2007 20:16

im worried if i let her out before shes had her jabs she wll come home pregnant

nailpolish · 12/10/2007 20:16

ARGH

before shes been neutered i meant, not before shes had her jabs as i wrongly said

Spiderhammer · 12/10/2007 22:28

NP my vet said it's fine to let them out before they get neutered. They are not going to get pregnant yet. He reckoned I could get away with another few months. I'm dreading doing that to them to be honest but will have to bite the bullet. My little girls...

Fi33 · 12/10/2007 23:28

My beloved cutie kitten is now going out BUT he comes back in the house to poo where he shouldn't .... why???? and he is on dry food and his poo is still disgustingly stinky and foul. I am trying to love him but he makes it difficult when he poos in all my doorways!!!

oh spidey i just cant think about it either. but its the kindest thing. i am so worried about letting her out and her gettng pg because i read somewhere that if a cat has one litter then gets neutered - they are broody forevver and mooch around broody and sad

wouldnt that just be awful?

how are you sure they wont get pg before they are neutered?

what age is best? i sem to remember its 6 mths

Spiderhammer · 13/10/2007 16:55

I heard six months too, but I think that's being extra careful.

I knew one constantly broody cat called Lizzie. She used to bring stuff in and look after it. She'd bring in big leaves and lie with them and lick them.
