will buying a kitten get rid of my mouse problem?

nothing else has worked. They keep coming back. Dont really want another cat (am enjoying no litter trays, no fur flying about, no flea treatments) but would rather that than mice!

depends if you get a mouser or not

Some cats will chase all the mice away, others will invite them in, give them tea and cakes and suggest they bring their micey friends round.

yes

even the smell of cat drives the mice away

raspberryberet · 08/10/2007 15:35

Definitely depends on the cat. My cat's a useless mouser - the only way she could catch one was if she lay down with her mouth open, and the mouse ran in!

Don't rely on a cat working, and certainly don't have a cat if you're not 100% sure you want one.

stealthsquiggle · 08/10/2007 15:36

like Squonk says - I have had both varieties (and the variation on the second who just says "mouse - what mouse?" and refuses to acknowledge the existence of mice in case they are then expected to do something about it!)

Tigaaaarghna · 08/10/2007 15:36

Found a completely flat mouse on dining room floor other day!
2 cats. Both seem to quite like the idea of hunting mice, but aren't exactly sure what to do once they catch one ( apart from lie on it - obviously!)

The smell of cat doesn't drive our mice away, nailpolish. We often find one sauntering across the room as if he's on a Sunday stroll, while our useless cat just sits and watches it!

Our cat used to bring live mice into the house just for fun. The only dead things we ever found in the house were birds - or bits of birds. Once I found a beak on the kitchen floor, another time a little pile of intestines!

Hope I haven't put you off getting a cat!

Our cat half-heartedly chased one down the stairs, the rest of the time she either didn't notice or pretended she hadn't seen them. I was mightily annoyed and told her she wasn't working for her living She just looked at me and stretched her paw out in an aren't I adorable kind of way.

dh got quite good at catching them though - sorry he's not for rental

sKerrymum, I have only ever seen one mouse at a time (except for three altogether on a sticky pad when it snowed one night but I hear there is no such thing as just one mouse. i wont see them for months at a time and then just when you think they're gone one will walk across the carpet in front of you! Been in the house a year and they were definitely here before as we found all the traps behind the plinths when we took the kitchen out in the summer.
