I have an 10 year old lab who recently went into vets for a week and had emergency surgery for stomach cancer and a tumour that has burst, we were close to losing him, but luckily he made a (nearly) full recovery!

In the days following picking him up we noticed he was itchy but do and he was nearly due

Posted too soon!!!

Due flea-ing so did that but couldn't see anything on him. A few days later noticed he was covered in fleas, have washed him twice with flea stuff, flea-d him again, has a flea collar. A week later still fleas?! Washed him again and decided to use more flea stuff. Have also used a natural flea spray on him and a spray for the house, not natural. This morning I noticed two fleas on him still!!
What do I do?!

Indorex is excellent (but nasty, be careful using it, I think it says to use it before you leave the house for a walk or something). Hoover regularly, hot wash any bedding especially dog blankets if you have them.

What flea stuff are you using?

I've used Advocate and Advantage spot on in the past, both good. Now we use Bravecto tablet from the vet every 3 months (I think).

I've never heard of a collar or flea shampoo that was any good (and I might be being a snob) but I think you might need to try some better products and just keep on top of hoovering and cleaning until they're under control.

Good luck, fleas are horrible! We had a really bad infestation years ago and I've been funny about keeping on top of it since then.

Also - sorry to hear he's been through so much! Hope he is feeling better now.

Thank you! Will look into those, the collar and shampoo were kind of an extra thought of "help what else can I use?!" Grin
He's definitely on the mend and feel so lucky it was caught early enough, he was fine and within minutes couldn't walk and was shaking and turns out he was going into septic shock! Just been on first long walk in a month and is konked out now!

I must admit I often look at them and think "oooh would that make extra extra sure he doesn't get them?"

We haven't had fleas since we started using the products I mentioned though.

That sounds absolutely terrifying! Thank goodness you got him the care he needed when you did. Glad he's enjoyed a long walk. I love older dogs, mine's an oldie too. They are just perfect!

Hey sorry to hear he got fleas it’s horrible isn’t it.
My lovely girl got fleas last year and I didn’t know how to deal with it.
Our vet advised us that it’s a long process to get rid (took us 4 months in total)
She told us to hoover everything everyday sofa, floors, bedding ect and put the heating one everyday for an hour or so And damp towel on the radiators ( middle of summer) so it would speed is the process of the eggs hatching.
You can hoover all day long but if you don’t have the heating on for them to hatch they will lay dormant until they are ready then you will have them again.
Flea collars only work before your dog has fleas not when they have them.
My vet said give my dog a good bath to start with too but it wouldn’t make any difference if you don’t hoover.
Hope this helps

I’m hoping I’ve finally beaten a 6-week infestation with lots and lots and lots of indorex (buy online as its £25 at the vet, £13 on amazon for example). I’m sure next week I’ll be hammering the soft furnishings again with it.

Blasted cat was only out ONE night! 🙄
